Yep tischer BMW. I got mine last friday for $183.00 with shipping. The only thing I dont like about the kit is the shift knob. Its doesnt seem to feel right so I also ordered the perforated m shift knob. Its looks pretty short buts its leather.

I ended up getting in touch with Evan at tischer and the shorter shift lever is on backorder for the next week or two. I don't know if this includes the SSK because I only ordered the shorter lever, but I know that the part #'s are the same. I'll also be using an M knob with the shorter lever... hopefully it won't be too short.

I guess I worded my post a little strange. I meant to say that I don't know if the back order also pertains to the SSK since just the shorter lever (what I ordered) is on back order.

hmm idk i really want the e46 m knob thats 55 bucks. if its cheaper than that ill do it or ill just get the knob i really want.

My SSK (kit) was in stock at Tischer when I ordered it.

Completed the installation of the SSK on my 2008 E90 335xi tonight.

The bad news is there is practically no way to access the clip from below the car. The good news is you don't have to get under the car.

First of all what I found on the xi was not quite like the install that started this thread. There are no pieces of foam, carpet, etc that need to be removed. The aluminum bracket for the ball and cup are very different, spherical shaped, with access only from the drivers side.

The biggest finding, you can install the clip with a needle nose pliers through the ball/cup opening before you snap the cup in place. What I don't know is if you can remove the clip from the stock shifter that way because by the time I figured this out I had removed the entire console. If you can remove the clip through the same opening this would be a 30 minute install at most.

The stock vs short shifter are very close to the same overall length, only the pivot ball location is different which changes the leverage ratios. I installed the shifter with it tipped toward the back of the car as when I layed the stock and short shifter together the angles matched almost perfectly that way.

Use some spray silicone inside the rubber boot to slip it over the new shifter, glides right on.

I also installed the M shift knob so I can't say how much difference just the shifter makes but I can say together it is a huge improvement. It definitely got rid of the "I'm shifting a farm truck" feeling.

Install was kind of a bitch since I was in exploration mode but if it is possible to remove the clip without removing the console this would be a very easy install. The next person who tries it will have to answer that question.

Boosted, what did they end up charging you for the lever? I see no reason to order the cup and clip since those can certainly be re-used. Also plan to use the shorter M knob. Anybody know the best/cheapest source for that?

Answered my own question by calling Tischer. The lever part # won't work on their website yet. With 20% discount the lever came to $60 plus about $7 shipping. Added a ZHP knob for $49 with free shipping so he knocked off the shipping for the lever as well. WooHoo! The lever is back-ordered from Germany though (2-4 weeks). I'm 7th in line to get one when they arrive.

I'm about to go install my shorter shift lever now. Does anyone know if it would be ok to use molly grease instead of urea grease? I only have molly grease and I couldn't find anything aside from molly grease at the autoparts store either. Thanks.

Sorry that I didn't see your question sooner. I ended up having to wait on the backorder for around a month also. I just got the shift lever yesterday. With all three parts it costed me $77 shipped, I think. As far as the M knob goes, I'm not sure who has it for the cheapest, but I ordered mine from Crown BMW a few months back before I ever dealt with Tischer. I think I'll deal with Tischer for now on though, Evan was very helpful.

I just installed the shift lever. This DIY was an excellent guide, thanks again for taking the time to post this up.

The install was very straight forward and only took about an hour or a little less. I just took the car for a test drive with the shorter BMW shift lever from the SSK and the oem M knob, and the throws are SOOOOOOOO much better. There is absolutely zero feeling of "slop" left in the transmission. The gears are now very close where 2nd, 4th, and 6th almost feel like they are very close to where neutral use to be, even with the M knob installed on the stock shift lever. This has really changed the way that the tranny feels. It now feels more like my last car (s2000 with a SSK) where the gears feels more direct, which I like a lot better.

With that said, I don't know if this mod is for everyone. I like the feeling of a very precise gearbox where shifting feels more on the notchy side. The bmw SSK lever with the M knob definitely makes the transmission feel more notchy, and where with just the M knob installed I was able to keep my elbow on the armrest and just flick between gears with the tips of my fingers, I can no longer do so.

For me, I definitely prefer the new feeling where the gearbox isn't so slushy feeling and I need to put my arm into the throw a little bit, even though the gears are now very close. If you like the feeling that I am describing then I would definitely recommend this since its a change that you can actually feel. I'm very happy since I really thought this gearbox felt like a piece of crap when I first bought the car after driving an s2k for 3 years. The M knob definitely improved the feel, but this improves it that much more.

This may be a dumb question, but by adding the kit, even though its OEM BMW Parts, would it nullify the Ultimate Warranty? I can't make anything of the warranty since it reads like an IRS Manual and I just want to make sure there is no language that makes an exception to something like this and screws me, thanks.

I'm not sure what they would "nullify". I would simply ask your dealer about this specifically, and get it in writing if you are worried. I can't imagine it would void anything. However in the BMW performance catalog, it states that this part is NOT compatible with the 335. This is just bunk. It fits and works like a charm.
