Hey Tex, refer to this thread, too bad the picture's down though, nevertheless, E90fleet explains how the autodimming feature works with the 2 sensors

Tex, I tested it inside my garage. It was dark enough that when I flash the light into the senor, it dimmed gradually...
Actually, it was pretty cool to see it dim gradually.

My car came pre-wired with everything, so it was just plug and play. In your case, I think you will need additional wiring harness to get it to work...

i wonder if they even sell that harnes, and where would the wires have to be run, probably have to tap into a ground and power wire in the roof somewhere, unless you can power all the other components from the clown nose. im not sure if that would work. i emailed the person i bought it from asking them how to hook it up. hopefully they can put their 2 cents in.

Well, if your car has the auto-dimming mirror and rain sensor, then it will work without a hitch. Otherwise, you will need a wiring harness that will have to be run through the headliner to somewhere...

Thanks to Kelvin's diy, I was able to swap out my rearview mirror without a hitch.
Like Kelvin said, be careful when twisting the mirror; make sure your twisting motion is parallel to the angle of the windshield, otherwise there's a good chance of you cracking your windshield.

a mirror is a mirror, it makes no difference which model you're taking off the mirror from

Has anyone in the US done this upgrade on a 325/8i?? The wiring harnesses do seem to be slightly different. Anyone figure out a fix?

I'm talking with Evan at Tischer as well. He seems to think it should work. I guess I'll find out when the mirror arrive. I do have the luxury of checking my dad's 330i and his seems to have 2-3 more wires then my 325i does. Maybe just buying the wire harness would fix it?

hopefully Joe can chime in.
But my guess is the wiring harness would need to run behind the headliner or something. Quote:

I got my mirror on eBay from one of the BMW parts suppliers there (forgot the name, but search for compass and homelink retrofit). Supposely they supply everything you need to retrofit if you don't have autodimming.
To re-iterate: 1. If you car has autodimming mirrors, then the retrofit is plug and play. 2. If you don't have it, you will most likely need a lot more work to get it hooked up and work. (That I can't help you) Better solution is to use one of the other DIY remotes rather than retrofitting the mirror. Note to remove the mirror: Follow another DIY posted in the forum for removal. Be very careful with the way you remove it. You don't want to crack your windsheild.

I got a mirror with homelink and auto-dim. However, my e92 did not come with premium package so I didn't have auto-dim. Anyone know instructions to install the wiring? Thanks.
