If you buy an Alpina D3, Alpina can install you a TomTom, its on the pricelist. See page 15 in the catalog.

Alpina D3 catalog

The new TomTom serie looks better:

they both get excellent reviews, with the tomtom having a few more little features than the garmin. i don't think you can go wrong either way.

Bought a Nuvi 350 for my wife and it is great. Just barely larger than a wallet and is very easy to use. My only complaint is that the included suction cup mount broke within 2 months. They are sending a new one under warranty though.

isnt there any nicer way of mounting the navigation system than using a suction cup mount?

there must be better ways.

i am wondering how this asian guy mounted his flat naviation system (post no. 99):

I agree - and I like the look of your setup.

I have a IPAQ 4700 and the position would work. I know yours not same device, but may I ask where/how you got your mount setup working and did you hardwire the power or ?

Thanks in advance.

Dashboard mount

Does anyone know the brand and/or type of the dashboard mount that holds the MIO in Edo’s picture, seen some messages above?

Bump! I am getting a Garmin Nuvi 350 and would like it mounted just like Edo's MIO. Anyone know where this mount is from and if it will work with the Nuvi 350? Thanks in advance for the help.

I bought myself a Becker Traffic Assist Highspeed. One of the best performers. But I don't know how well they work in US. The TomTom will be better option then.

The one in your post is a very old one. Have the new TomTom Go 910

When you don't want the look of the dashboard to be ruined, buy a retrofit nav-system from VDO Dayton (at your BMW dealer). it fits in the one of vents on the centre console, the only downside is that it is a lot more expensive:

is it more expensive than just ordering i-drive/navi with the car? Could you please post more pics (i.e. the controller knob, etc.)

I have the OEM navi but I think a lot of people would be very interested in your settup...

The navigation is on the list of options (and in the catalog) of BMW and is installed by the dealers.

The price installed is € 1.745,-/1.595,- and the i-drive (professional) cost € 3.538,-/2.900,- (price in Netherlands/Belgium)

Don't know the prices in the US but it is about 2 times cheaper.

You can control it via a remote control: more pictures see thread:

The Garmin 330 is a good entry level nav. It certainly does everything the iDrive's nav does and more. Thie biggest downside of the 330 is that it has the old Garmin screen technology which is not very bright. It washes out very easily in sunlight.

I mount mine in my Suburban low down with an external antenna. It works great. I had to buy a 2720 for my Volvo because I couldn't read the c330.

Other clips for the dashboard before the vents:

www.brodit.com

Under "vehicles" you can find the right clip for dashboard mounting, the rest for finding the right bracket to click your device into.

zzinco79 what price you are looking for???

go with a garmin I used to had a Tomtom and they are not that good Garmin is way more accurate with the directions my tomtom was a little dump

if you are looking for something for $300 get the Garmin StreetPilot c330 in wallmart for $295

now if you have more money you can get the StreetPilot c550 that is almost the same plus better screen, bluetooh, mp3 and traffic receiver for $465 in www.futurepowerpc.com

the StreetPilot c550 it have the same features that the nuvi 660 but a smaller screen but is a good value for the money.
I would not recommended the nuvi series if you are only looking for a navigation because the nuvi is a travel companion it have dictionary, currency converter, photo viewer and all that crap that you don't need to use in your car but if you have $600 to burn go head but remember that the StreetPilot c550 have the same features for $300 less

good luck

Thanks brummelenj but i was looking for that specific dashboard mount from Edo's pic. I didn't want something that block the air vents.
