Compatible Cell Phones with BMW Bluetooth

I'm trying to decide which cell phone to go with for my 07' X5 4.8.
I'm with AT&T.
I have a treo 680 that was working for about a month, then stopped working. I went to the dealer and they said since it's not an approved phone, that they can just stop working.
Found out that if the phone book doesn't upload, that's a good indicator that it will eventually stop working.

Anyone else have any recent experiences, good and bad. And the type of phone and carrier.

Thanks.

A lot of phones are not compatible with the BMW bluetooth system. That's why I try to stick with Motorola which have worked flawlessly for me. I've just recently switched to a Blackberry Curve and was glad it was compatible. The only thing is that I have to wait for the prompt screen to come up on the phone and then hit yes so it could accept the bluetooth connection. Other than that, it's fine.

Oh if you could, get the iPhone. That will definitely work with the BT system.

I picked up my 16GB iPhone on friday last week, and it is fantastic and far better than I expected. It will not synch with the e46 though, but I'll be ordering the e90 soon so things will change. As I said, fantastic phone!

Most LG's work too.

I think most phones will pair, however, syncing the phone book to the car is another story.

Why not just go into the bluetooth connections setting screen and automatically authorise on the bmw bluetooth? Will save you hitting yes every time

I'm not sure if your treo 680 is using windows mobile software, but if it is you might want to try and install Jetware.

Best $15 - $20 I ever spent.

I have a Nokia 5300 and it works great. The only thing that doesn't work is when I get a second incoming call, it will not show who is calling on the Nav screen, only beeps and shows the current call. Also I can not set one of the multifunction buttons to call my voicemail. I use Tmobile.

So you need your phone to have the Bluetooth enabled at all times, right?

That should be a battery killer...

I thought so too at first but I still can make it a full 2 days without recharging and I'm always on my phone. Any newer model phone has new Bluetooth chips that dont really affect the battery life.

Nah, just turn it on when you get in the car. Turn it off when you get out. On my phone it's like 2 button presses.

My Nokia 6126 works perfectly, phonebook transfers instantly and the phone disconnects the moment I turn off the car.

Also check out that sticky, they show all the phones that people have gotten to work and ones that didnt. Just will have to read a little bit, its pretty long.
