Well I live in texas and it gets pretty hot down here in the summer. I go to the 1/4 mile track every weekend either to race my bike or car, or just go to watch. And I have never ran worse than a 13.5 in my stock gto and thats with a 2.2 60ft. Maybe you're right and it depends on the track but I think the human factor is the biggest problem. By the way did you run a 12.8 with the 19s or stock? I'm loving your rims man.

When I ran 12.81 sec. @ 110.52mph (although my highest trap was 111.22mph that evening), I had my current 19" Morr Alloys VS7s (20 lb. each vs. 30 lb. each for oem stock wheels) and Michelin PS2 tires (265/30/19 rear and 235/35/19 front); I had my rear tires set @ ~ 26psi and front tires set @ ~ 29psi for my runs at the track in Dec., '07. Also, my 60ft. on the 12.81 sec. run was 1.984 sec.

btw -- On one run, I ran next to a modded C5 'Vette, and he ran 13.0x sec. vs. my 12.81 sec....I crossed the line ~ 2 CLs ahead of him.

Well, Bud, all you do is put in a 160 stat and program the fans to come on at a lower temp and you now have gotten rid of the heatsoak issue. Um, about $25. My race weight with me in it and having a 4 point cage with a Schroth ASM harness is 3815 (I weight 180). Do the math. You can drop weight with no issues. My 04 GTO stock would run 13.50s at 105 and with bolt-ons she went 13.0s at 108 and with a small cam it went 12.6s at 113 and now she runs 10.80s at 132 and daily drives with no problems. The 335i is nice and you can make it quick for little money but on the big end the LSX motors are tough to beat. They can handle 500+ rwhp with no problems.

If any of you see crappy #s then it is a driver error. The cars with good drivers are faster then you think. I call it the 20% rule. 2 in 10 GTO owners can actualy driver their cars to the full potential. The others make the car look slow. Not the case . . .

Hell, my Jag XJR runs 13.4s bone stock with TC on . . .

Not doubting any of what you said (b/c it's quite obvious that they can be easily modded), but from my experience with these GTO 6.0L's (on street and from what I've seen at the track), apparently, these guys didn't do any of that (running low 14's at the track).

btw -- ..."and now she runs 10.80s at 132..." -- now, that's some serious speed right there; you must have some major mods on your GTO for that kind of ET and trap!!!

Good to hear from you Doc! No doubt the GTO's can run great. I have to agree with you on your rule of 20 to a point, I would say its more like rule of 5 or 10. With the skinny rear tires on the GTO....its really hard for them hook up w/ out mods. Even then most people will burn the rear tires up and end up w a crappy et.

Driver mod FTW! At our track events it is funny to see 80% of the owners running some crappy times . . . I usually hop in some 6 speed goats and demolish their ETs so they can see that it is not their car.

My car has the usual bolt-ons, cam, Vortech S/C at 9lbs and a 75 shot of spray (track only) to aid in cooling the charge. It makes 623 rwhp on the spray and 540 off.

Good times for you as well with little mods!
