New lease vs lease trade

What do you guys think? Are people out there getting justifiably better deals assuming a current lease over leasing new from dealer?

you avoid the down payment and if you are looking for a short term lease, its the best option..

I'm picking up my lease assumption on Wednesday..

2007 335i Sedan

Options:
  • Titanium Silver Paint
  • Premium Package
  • Sport Package
  • Paddle Shifters
  • Auto trans
  • Comfort Access
  • heated seats
Sticker: $46,295

car has 12,215 miles on it
25 months @ 32,785 miles remaining (45K miles @ lease end)

$549/month
$28,250 lease buyout

according to the original lease paperwork, the guy paid $5,500 @ lease signing, negotiated purchase price was $44,995 + $825 acquisition fee.

In my eyes I'm saving $5,500 buy assuming this lease on a car that is less that 1yr old. And I actually wanted a shorter term lease. No out of pocket for me, other than the filt to pick up the car and drive it back.. The seller covered the $450 transfer fee.

So you got a $0 down $549/month 15.7kmiles/year lease for a 25month term. That sounds "justifiably" better than new, good work.

Where do you guys look for these deals other than leasetrader.com and this forum?

The site does not matter. BMW does all the work and will not talk to the Web Sites. Lease assumption can be a goood deal especially if the seller pays the fees. I did much better with my assumption than I could myself on a new car. And almost $0 or real $0 down is the best deal going!

You might be better off with the current lease program BMW has going. I just put in my order this morning actually for an 08' 328i coupe. $3,301 total out of pocket and $479 a month. 12k a year, 36 mos. 335i coupe was $90 more a month with a couple hundred extra out of pocket. Guy told me BMW is getting real competitive with the 3-series lease numbers due to the 1 series coming and could take away many 3-series customers/buyers. Personally for me, there's no better thrill than a brand new car, and that new car scent. Shop it around and see what you can get new first before going used.

I'm not sure on the details like money factor and all that. I just call dealers and keep giving them the new numbers until finally they either stop calling me back or tell me they can't do any better.

08' 328i coupe
Alpine white
Black leatherette
Steptronic with paddle shifters
Sport package
iPod/USB connection
Heated front seats
Bluetooth

MSRP I believe is $40,100

I was negotiating since mid-February and finally one salesman said I should wait until the March numbers come out b/c he felt the leases would go down more due to the competition of the 1-series. Prior to March 1st, my best deal was $3,4xx total out of pocket at $511/mo.

I got a lease buy out last year on a 328 for 210 a month. 0 down, and no fee. The guy put down 10k, and wanted the car gone as he had a new Caddy coming. The car had 5500 miles on it, so i could turn that deal down. Ron

In that type of situation, you have to jump on it. But to save $50 a month or so, I'd prefer a new car. Not too mention who knows how the previous lessee drove the car or what problems they may have had. Regardless of having a warranty, who wants to deal with bringing the car to the dealer and worrying about what future problems and when they will occur. Good find on that deal though!
