TPMS sensor gone

I talked to my dealer the other day about changing wheels. I told him to remember the TPMS sensors and he told me that in the 2008 model they are gone. Its another system now and they moved them from the wheels and into the ABS system (like in the old model?)

And true - i just mounted my new wheels and sensors are ok...

So you dont need to order sensors if you car is from 2008.

Hold on that makes no sense. Unless there is a feed line from the tire to the ABS sensor, then how can the car know what the pressure in the tires is? Since the tire is rotating, there is no way a feed line can exist. I don't buy this.

Your dealer is full of shit. The TPMS sensor on my 08' is on the wheel, same as before.

I seriously doubt this. All coupes and convertibles have the TPMS system. And all sedans built after March 07 have the system as well.

LAWL.....maybe the European one are different.

My 2008 E92 had sensors, and I bought new ones to go with my new wheels from Tischer and they work perfectly....

Can't speak for Denmark, but my US issued 2008 335i sedan has TPMS sensors in the wheels.

No TMPS sensors in Australian delivered cars. Mine is March 07. Instead the computer uses feedback from the ABS system. It monitors wheel rotation speed. A flat tyre will change the speed of rotation. Better system IMO as you can mount and change tires/wheels without worrying about those damn sensors.

new service requirement, must get the feed line unwound every 15000 miles. THere's a spool in the trunk.

All you need to do is look at the valve stems. If they are metal , you have a TPMS system. If they are rubber, you have the non sensor type of system. Note the metal valve stem on my wheel located at the 3:00 position with Non OEM valve stem cap

Its metal. But still. The sensor system is in the ABS system as E93 explained.
Nice freedom to change wheels without paying 250 extra.
Its working wery well.

That is the older system. I have that and my buddy's E39 M5 does too. It uses a logrithym system I believe.

Not sure its older. Mostly US cars with TPMS. Seems most euro cars use ABS. It senses the changes in the rolling diameter of the tire. I'd like to know why they use different systems in different markets?

NO TPMS in Canada ... at least not 2007 models. My 335i has the same FTMS as my 2004 Z4, as per above explanation.

Thx - so people in US can start to beleave it.

Yesterday i tryed to let air out of one wheel - and the alarm showed it. So its working with random rims and tires.
There might be problems if you change the total size of the wheel.
