I've just realised why I was worried: the //M wheel reminds me of this ghastly effort I had on my Toyota RAV4

uh, "ghastly"? the wheel looks fine to me, I think you're way way way too critical. I bet you're one of those guys that, at a fashion show, points out all the 'flaws' of the models, 'ooh, that one's got a mole on her left ankle' 'yuck, that one's got a wrinkle 0.2cms above her right eyebrow'

Lol, not really. I never criticise the way a person looks, but when I'm paying for an object, I like it to be just right.
