How to stop dash vent from blowing?

You know the vent on top of the dash, next to the speaker? Is there a way to keep air from blowing through it, or close it? I dont like the air blowing out of it and woudl like to close it. I've tried every setting but cant seem to figure out how to close it (maybe you cant).

Just don't use the "Auto" setting and set your preferred vent openings with the buttons.

with it starting to get hot around here, i want the a/c to go where i want it, and i too cannot figure out how to shut off that top vent (not the one in the middle where the door unlock button is, but the one on the top of the dashboard). i never use the auto button, but it keeps blowing, even when i have the footwell only button lit up.

what am i doing wrong?

It's easily adjustable in iDrive.

close the vent,

it has zero to do with any computer setting

close the damn vent if you don't want air coming out

is this your first car or something?

Oh, you mean the vents near the windshield, why on earth do those bother you?? they're not blowing on you and they're not loud

Safety vent for defogging windows and just having a little new air flowing into the car.

agreed.

it doesn't so much bother me that air is blowing out of it and it's virtually silent, i just want to know why i can't close it and direct the air where i want. i am not real concerned about having my windshield air conditioned when it's 90 degrees outside.

I hate those freakin' vents and I can't get them off either. I drive with my sunroof open and A/C on all the time and when I do that the air coming from those vents is completely lost.

Did anyone ever solve this riddle......the air actually blows in my face from these vents and not just on the window. When it is hot outside it also makes the window fog up when the cold AC air hits the window area above the vents. Craziness that you can't manually shut this vent off.

pull the vent hard, it will pop off. shove something in there to block the duct. replace.

There is always duck tape

The rotary on off switch for each vent works pretty well .
You could open the passenger vents in the rear and on the right side
and it would reduce it some plus redirect.

In iDrive, I can easily adjust which vent blows how much. Do non-idrive cars not have this option?

Yea, I don't see how that lets you control that top vent on your dash....we are talking about the vent on the top of your dash facing upwards not the vents in front of dash facing towards you.

This is one of the worst design flaws I have witnessed in the interior of a car.

It does control those. I have mine set to hardly blow, and guess what? I can't even feel air coming from them when I have the AC on. Per the description of the number 1 control - Airflow directed towards the windshield (that's the vents up on the dash that go across the front) and side windows (that's the little vents that angle towards the side windows.

Anyways, I can adjust the number one control and can feel the air blowing from those top dash vents when I turn it up, and it goes away when I turn it down.

It seems that only iDrive lets you do the 'fine tuning' of the air distribution.....this is a huge FAIL on BMWs part.
