Actually the 18's are a bit softer than the 17's. The reason being there is less of a side wall. The 17 have more of a side wall and that makes them stiffer. When I ran 17's on my 325xi everytime I hit a bump or pothole I felt liek the car was going to fall apart. Everything was shaking so badly. However when I picked up my 335xi cpe I had the 18's with rfts and the ride was softer due to there being less side wall and being less stiff. But I took them off anyway and put on yokohama advan S.4 all seasons anyway

So far Michelin PS2 RFT only offer in 18" on Tirerack, but you could go with Conti as well.

Common sense should tell you that if the car did not come with a spare tire, than BMW does'nt want you to use non-RFT tires. I decided to actually respond to you(dont know why) but I will not dignify you on your misaligned accusations. You, however, are the one who needs to take a look in the mirror and ask yourself if you want to represent yourself in this way to others. Or do you want to flex your invisible interweb muscles.

That being said. The reason BMW went with runflats is because they could make more money off of it in the long run. Each car now has one less full size wheel and tire. Put that in your calculator and figure out the savings. Then whenever someone needs to replace a tire, more than likely they will go to the dealership instead of a local tire place, again put that in your calculator. Is it adding up for you yet? Run flats typically have a much lower wear rating than non-RFTs(probably 10-15k vs 30k+ for non-RFT's) which means they need to be replaced more often. Holy cow that calculator is on FIRE!!

While my common sense seems to be quite a bit different than yours, I don't think by BMW not including a spare tire/kit did they "Not" want me to use non-RFT's. They just made it harder for people to go that route. And well, it seemed to have put the "fright" in several people, including you, and they succeeded in their marketing tactic.

While it may be true that BMW designed the suspension around RFT's(don't get all giggly that I just partially agreed with you) because I know the Corvette is designed around that too, it doesn't mean non-rft's will have that much of an impact on the car. This however will have NOTHING to do with a warranty nor would it get voided because of such(another scare tactic for you to keep buying tires from the dealership(see a pattern here?)).

And in terms of having a flat in the middle of nowhere. Sigh..... If you're in the middle of nowhere on RFT's that say youre not supposed to drive more than 50 miles, where do you think youre going either? Secondly, every flat Ive ever had was a nail in the tire, not a blowout. Blowouts are so rare these days that they are borderline non-existent. Nail-in-tire flats usually cause a slow leak, not an overnight leak. They can be patched(Ive done two in my driveway already this season) for much less than the cost of one of the RFT's that say they cant be patched at all. And lastly, I have AAA, I live in suburbia and its a very slim chance I would get beaten up and robbed(more true in the middle of nowhere which you seem to be stuck on).

So, after that, do you still want to try kicking sand?

I have a set of PS2 Run Flats to be installed probably next week (still gets too cold here at night).

Once I have them installed, I will post a review of how they compare to the Bridgestone RE050 Runflats. I am expecting they will be a marked improvement.

I'm running on Goodyear Eagle F1's (from Tire Rack of course) after hitting a huge pothole here in DC which resulted in broken sidewall and bulging. Very pleased with them... the ride is better and I like the way they look. Bought 4 tires and a mobility kit.

I'm pretty sure RFT's are only run flat under very specific damage scenarios. RFT's seem to me to be just as susceptible to catastrophic failure as other tires. It just made sense to me to have the lower cost item on this particular consumable. Just my opinion, though.

Not sure if it was the best deal out there but I bought the BMW Mobility Kit from Bavarian Autosport (www.bavauto.com). It was around $170 or close to that, not including shipping.

The most succinct rebuttal yet to going with RFTs. I will also add that if you are in the middle-of-nowhere, your chances of actually getting a replacement RFT are next to nil, even if you do happen to make it the 50 mi on 0 pressure.

Since this thread is officially off topic Ill go with it. I say go with 19's. Going to 18s youll still look stock and the gap in the wheel well will be significant. Plus you wont really lose any ride quality going to 19's. I love my 19's and many others will tell you the same. YMMV

I'm still undecided! I love the look of the 19" rims, but I have to drive to NYC a lot, and the idea of a 4+ hour ride on 19's through Jersey and the city doesn't sound that great.

Also, if I go with the 18" M6 Reps I would buy the Eagle F1 tires... which would come out to the same price range as the 19" rims and generals.

It's a tough call. But right now I'm with you, leaning towards the 18's
