CF trunk of your choice? I really need your feedback on this! Vorsteiner/DD/Seibon ??
Ok. As I said in another thread, I am looking for trunk and rear bumper. I will most likely stick with OEM primed bumper because it's only $270 shipped to my door and is ready to be painted, unlike if I get from another member, unless it's gray, it has to be sanded down and re-primed prior to painting process.
About the Trunk, however, there are some choices. I saw these seibon trunks off eBay. Anybody has any experience with it? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...184922988&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA:IT&ih=017 Also, I saw the thread about Duke Dynamics and Vorsteiner CF trunks. Does anybody knows where to get these trunks cheap? (Yes, I looked their website and realized that there is no price info and also wondering if there is any cheaper ones available) Look-aside & quality-wise, which is better? I don't want it cracks on me at the Costco or something. Any feedback will be appreciated. Last edited by hun77777; 03-24-2008 at 05:02 AM. Reason: Duke Dynamics vs. Vorsteiner |

Seibon has been known to have poor fitment and or the clear coat fade over time.
I *think* DD fixed their fitment to be OEM, I can't confirm. Vorsteiner's is top quality and dead on OEM fitment. I personally think it looks the best (but that's my opinion). |

I am personally a fan of the Vorsteiner trunk. I absolutely love how the piece flows with the rear end and feel the shape is perfect for that car.
Vorsteiner is on the expensive end of the various brands but for good reason. They are one of the few carbon fiber manufacturers to exclusively use dry vacuum form production in both CF and non-CF materials. This allows for stricter quality standards in terms of weave, strength and construction. That translates to an OEM fit and finish that is backed by Vorsteiner and is designed to be a direct replacement for your stock trunk. I am sure you are aware but Vorsteiner has a strong reputation and history for high quality lightweight body components that conform to certain standards of fit and finish. You really cannot go wrong with a Vorsteiner piece and while you do pay more up front, you are ensured a part that is a direct fit without any hassles. We are fully authorized Vorsteiner dealers and regularly stock bootlids so feel free to contact us if you choose that route! |

Do a search on that and you'd know and there were just two threads on the trunks this past weekend. Seibon's trunk turn yellow fairly quickly and fitment is not great. The DD trunk is not released yet I believe.

The reason Seibon products fade is because people don't take the time to sand off the factory coating and apply a "real" clear coat. I have the Seibon hood and trunk lid and both fit perfectly fine and are at least a year old - no yellow

Personally, I think you shouldn't have to do this if you're buying a good product.

True, it sucks. But the price makes up for it.

because the original clear coat that is on the Seibon trunk will turn yellow over time

We haven't had a chance to do a direct comparison but just to give you an idea, here is the chart for an E46.
