I have read the OP's post twice and I cannot tell if he is serious or if this is just an April Fools joke!

Interesting Concept, I think someone should try building some custom piping using the 328 snorkel.

That "intake" looks like an exhaust off a bike.

funny, i was thinking of inventing a way for this airbox to fit. the only bad part is it sit above the oil cooler lines.

Interesting; I made a modified air duct system using a 3" flex tubing similar to that one and a MAF adapter to bolt it to the fog light support; It's not quite finish as I am making a box/heat shield for the HVI filter. Pics.

All of the intakes have some "Y" in the tubing that was obviously welded. I think any decent machine shop should be able to fabricate this.

Actually the only thing that bothers me about everysingle one of the intakes out right now is that weird turn that the inlet for the front turbo has to make.

Honestly, my plans were for DUAL Logic intakes modified to remove that little angle it had to divert air to that turbo.

i was going to modify said inlet though, so that it faces the fender instead of the firewall.

Again, of the CAI out so far the UR seems to address this the best with least sharp bends once it gets to the top of engine bay.
I'm sorry, but I still don't see the reason you want to install this? Are you planning on removing your current airbox and replacing it with an in-line BMC filter?

Why not just buy a filter for your current set-up? You do understand that the in-line filters your so excited about are meant for cars that have limited space, etc?

Your current air filter allows for more air, because it has a bigger surface area than those cans you've posted. It would be a back wards step in performance! The washable, regeneratable filter can also be bought for the current BMW airbox too. So it seems you have gotten excited over nothing.

It seems that if we took the 328i's intake and added a 3 inch tube to it to this Carbon Dynamic Air Intake from BMC (was thinking about the CDA85-150,..below) it whould work well. The only problem I see is getting it to have a "Y" in the tubing like th UR CAI does to provide flow to both turbos.

I already gave that idea in other thread. You forget to add the rpi air scoops to the OEM air snorkel to feed the BMC CDA with lots of fresh air.

I appreciate the input but have you LOOKED at the filter in your airbox? The measurement of the replacement air filter is 356mm x 287 mm of which only about 240mm x 240mm is actually filtering air. Total Surface area is around 58,000 mm. This cylinder measures 150mm by 200mm (total surface area is about 130,000mm). I also looked at the useable filtering surface area of the cylinder and made some assumptions but they still are reasonable ( I think). Assuming filter only takes up 100mm x 150mm of the total in the cylinder the filtering surface area is now 62,800 mm and STILL larger than the stock airfilter. Not by much grant you but still larger by about 8%. (EDIT: this is probably an OVERLY conservative assumption as well)

That is one reason I though running dual filter may be of some use or constructing something similar with a larger surface area cylinder. This really should be no different than running single or dual cone filters just encased in a box protecting it form hot air in the engine bay. That's the bottom line to what I'm getting at. I'm trying to evaluate this as a viable concept. It seems like it is to me but I cant figure out why no one has actually made something like this. Is there a performance reason I don't know about or just too hard?

So it seem you jumped to conclusions before looking at all the information

My friend, you're not using the available information correctly, you're missing a huge part of the equation, design!

The stock airbox surface area filters air all at once, in parrallel. Those BMC canisters might have surface area, but there is considerably more restriction in it's design. Basically the canisters are in serial, while the stock design operates in parrallel.

You have less restriction in the stock airbox.
