VSS wire in e90?

anyone know where to find this wire. I have an IVAD310 and NVEN872a waiting to get installed and I can't find the VSS wire. Thanks.

its speedsensor wire....use it when u connect aftermarket indash GPS so it can calculate you ETA, some units tell u the speed your going. also the newer aftermarkets are using the VSS wire to lock up the DVD player so u cnt watch while u drive over 15MPH, but can be bypassed.

there is no vss wire on this car. well, there is, but it's tied in with the abs, vsc, traction control, etc. i have an iva-d900 with an alpine nve-n852a that i had in my 03 325xi. that car had a vss, and the system worked beautifully in there. integrated nicely with the factory amps and speakers, too. so, i recently picked up an 06 330xi, and tried to put the system in there. what a nightmare. first off, the the amp and dsp is fiber optic, so no way to integrate into it. the whole system has to be bypassed. which means adding aftermarket amps to power the 13 speakers. then you get zero reception with the tuner if you hook into the factory antenna, so a separate power antenna has to be added-and the reception is now poor, at best. then, navi can be hooked up, but there's no vss wire. the car uses what's called can-bus. this is also used on porsches and mercedes.

to get around this, you have to purchase a speed impulse generator. kenwood makes one that will work with the alpine navi, but it'll run you about 200 bucks. basically, you have to magnetize a portion of the wheel hub, then mount a sensor near the wheel in the engine bay which picks up on the spin of the magnetized portion. the alpine navi can then be tied into this sensor and use it as the vss wire. they say it's accurate, but i have since given up.

the e90 is not aftermarket friendly. the whole car has to be re-wired, re-amped, etc, just to get average performance out of an awesome aftermarket system. i've decided to take everything out of the car and go back to the factory setup. it's been too much of a headache.

maybe one day, if they ever come up with a way to seemlessly integrate the iva-d900 and other aftermarket audio/video/navi into the factory dsp and/or amps i'll put it in. the only way i can think of is to get an a/d converter that takes the signal from the pre-outs, converts it to digital, then sends it out via a fiber optic cable with the right end connector to the factory system. as far as i know, no such thing exists. so for now, i'm going back to the factory system, which sounds decent, and using a garmin dash mount navi.

if i would've known this 3 months ago, i would've ordered my 330xi with factory navi, but i already had the iva-d900 and alpine navi, which is a great system that i thought would easily install, and i didn't want that idrive system-too complicated to use and to small of a screen

if anyone knows how to overcome this fiber optic setup, please let me know.

yeah, i do have the logic 7 system. all 330s come standard with it. i know you can put in an aftermarket system with the base radio on the 325, but if you take the upgraded logic 7, or a 330 with the logic 7 standard, it's a real pain. no way to integrate right into the factory system. the logic 7 sounds great, but i really miss my alpine navi, it's one of the best i've ever used.
