328i engine conversion
I'm sure people here have thought about it. Has anyone actually done it? I'm thinking of getting the wagon and later on turning it into a 330iT with 255hp instead of 230hp. Seems doable but I could be wrong.

On Order....

You want to do a whole engine conversion for just 20 more hp? Wow. I would spend the money you would save from NOT doing this into adding after-market performance parts like a turbo and have way more than 20 hp.

Yeah swapping from one N52 to another makes absolutely no sense. Are you talking about replacing the whole engine, or just the intake, etc?
If you do a swap, it should be an N54 for sure. Or, if you want something really unique, an S54. This will be huge money though no matter how you slice it. If you just want to upgrade the intake, search around - I remember a couple threads about this. But as I recall it is not cheap and basically not worth the money for the 25hp. Other mods can get you the power more inexpensively.

Let me 'splain. I meant tuning it so that it puts out 255hp like a 330i. The 328i is the same engine so I presume adding the missing components and reprogramming the ECU will do the trick, yes? I don't know how much trouble it would be to do and at a certain point it might not be worth it for 25hp only. I'm sure people with 325i's have thought about doing this. If I wanted to drop another engine in I would just wait a coupla years and put the M3's V8 in

Not to piss on your parade, but why would you put that much time and $$$ into a (clear throat) wagon? I understand that a coupe or sedan isn't practical for everyone but modding a wagon seems silly to me.

^ Been thinking about that as well. It's just expensive as hell. So i am going to wait to see if a SC comes out. =)

The turner kit is a good way to go... or you could just get a 3-stage intake manifold (or the second DISA adjuster) from a X3 3.0si or Z4 3.0si or X5 3.0si and then get your ECU flashed with Software from one of those cars. Probably come in a bit cheaper in the end than the Turner kit as you don't have to get the high-flow exhaust manifold.

![]() I'd love to swapp an N54 into my E91 some day in the future... I'd also suggest the Turner kit for simple ease of install, correct parts, etc. Good luck. |

save up for a supercharger... with the stage 3... youre only getting 7hp over stock 330 setup (which is probably only from the remapping).
Supercharger i would guess could add in the neighborhood of 100 hp or so |

No offense to the guys advocating a supercharger, but a lot of people don't want the headaches associated with them... and the kits worth buying are typically a lot more money than the Turner conversion kit. And top of that, do you really think that the N52 was designed to take any forced induction? Its running an aluminum and magnesium block and was designed largerly to be light weight more than anything.

I'm really not looking for 350+ horses just a tad more ![]() Incidentally I just got off the phone with a rep from Turner and right now they do not have anything for the 328i but will be developing something shortly ![]()
