That's right, the M1 is on the way back!

I'm sure it will remain a concept but it sure looks sexy and true to the styling cues of the origional. Some cars like the M1 should never be rebourn and should remain for the legand they are.

I know this is the Australia section, but check out this thread in general:

It's not coming back. They have already said they have no plans for an M1. This was just created as a concept for the anniversary.

Its a modern interpretation of the origional M1. Search for a photo of the origional and you will understand why this one looks the way it does.

There is a pic with the orignal in it, along with the BMW turbo concept (from the early 70's). You can see the three lined up together.

I beg to differ.
BMW has already registered the trade mark M10.
BMW refused to put M1 on the 1 series.
They need a competitor to the Audi R8.
There has been constant rumours regarding a new z8 or 8series.
Plus why wouldn't they bring it back, as BMW have lost their tie to the title of fastest production car in the world, with the McLaren F1 being toppled by the Veyron & Ultimate Area SSC. (For the uninitiated the McLaren F1 was powered by a BMW designed & built V12).
That given with BMW's demonstrated ability to produce engines able to sit up alongside and beat the best of the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini and alike, why wouldn't an M1 be able to stand up and fight it out against the best.

I loved those 8 series but this opinion is coming from an owner of a 635CSI and i just love big coupes. Maybe if BMW do decide to make the CS concept they will name it an 8 series.

It looks like it might be coming back? Or maybe they are bringing the 8er's back...
Update: just found some other threads, apparently it is a PS, a damn good PS at that.

This was apparently photographed in a airplane hangar in spain.

2008 BMW M3 E92  [0.00]
^ I think I'd agree. The front looks a little pulled out and has a very un-BMW-like overhang. In fact it looks like an E92 M3 .. same side gills, bonnet vents and bulge, wing mirrors, very similar configuration of intakes and grills at the front and even an elongated cheek reflector (as on the North American delivered cars). Same side skirt as well. Front wheels look very 'shopped.
