Electronic Limiter Nannies

I was wondering, have any of you ever done a ECU flash? I am wondering this because i am thinking of uncapping the top speed and boosting a little midrange punch on my car. I ran a 210 kph on my car and it wouldn't go anymore, i would like it at least to 250. Is it possible for the dealership to figure out that the car is unrestricted and void the car's warranty? I have heard from some sources that no they can't and yes they can.

dinan wasn't able to do much with the E46 motor (0 hp gain, but did unleash the top speed)

there's a huge thread in the motor and drivetrain section, some company in canada that you have to ship your ECU to, and the gains are questionable.

even if you don't have sport pack you're limited at 133 mph (or so)
the reason they do that is the tires the car's equipped with aren't rated for speed like the sport pack tires are.

I don't think anyone has had success with a performance software upgrade yet, and I don't hold much hope for anyone to be able to get much done with this new motor

if you do find a way to remove your speed limiter, make sure your tires are up to the task before attempting!

good luck

The 325 with sports package has the limiter set at 250km/h - so i think it is therefore very much possible to simply tweak your software to push the limit up to 250 km/h and at that point your dealer won't notice a thing, since all of the sport package e90s have the limit set at the 250 level.

With the new cars you could have a poblem
The next time it goes to the dealer and there is a software update, it may contain ECU software, if so, it will overwrite your new software.
There is no way for your dealer to know if there is ECu software in the update and no way for them to stop it from updateing the ECU if there is.

As for you quesion abou them knowing:
The dealer wont easily see it, but if there is a warraty claim BMW may request a software check, which will spot the non-BMW software.

I am thinking of selling my 330i and getting a 335i with a ECU flash. I understand that the 335i has more turbo potential than 300 HP. If i do get this car i am getting the sport package. So you say the sport package does shift the top speed level to 250kph?

If the sport package comes with performance tires, it also unlocks the car up to 155mph. On the XI models, sport package alone doesn't raise the top speed, it stays limited to 130mph.

If you get an XI and add the 162s+performance tires, or other "approved" performance setup, then I believe dealers will unlock your top speed.

Either way, as another poster stated, it has nothing to do with the engine and everything to do with protecting from lawsuits related to tire failure running above rated speed.

I believe that H-rated tires max out at 210km/h, so with W or higher, you should be good to go for the car's physical top speed.

Coquihalla here you come!
