It is just like a normal tail light bulb just a lot smaller. I'm trying to find a large LED that wil replace it. I just need to identify the size of this bulb.
Isn't it possible to take the bulb out without braking the chrome part and taking the black part out?

If you simply replace it with a high power LED you are going to have Serious Heat problems.

more info

The bulb won't come out the front. It is a bayonet type bulb and the two posts that hold it in stick out too much to be pulled from the front.
It looks like a 9mm bayonet bulb.

An LED actually produces less heat that a halogen bulb...

Thanks for the pics of it apart. I saw that soaristo did the same thing while working on his setup.

No idea about PMB, I called it my GMB, for ghetto man's brex.

I'm going to order a lighter color blue and use that. This is a bit too blue for my tastes, like a 10K HID kit....

To the above question, if he just colored the lens, its not going to be any brighter. I have Hyperwhite PMBs and they're a lil dimmer then stock.

I did the same thing in my Integra except I used red and got an amber guage cluster:

Tomorrow if I dont wake up too late I'll rip it apart and goto staples and get what I need to make it look like the way I want it to. I also need to try out my LED light, see how that looks.

Lightbulb halo bulb is 9mm bayonet.

I just ordered two 9mm bayonet LED's each 8.3 watts (superbriteLEDs.com) in red. I need to order one more lighting unit from BMW to mess around with and I will be able to test my theory. these led's are frickin bright! hooked it up to a 9V battery and it was amazing, can't wait till the 12V in the car.

I made an LED setup out of two 2800 mcd LED's. This was deffinetly not enough to do anything in terms of ligiting the halos. I'm now back on the search of what to do. Maybe a 1 Watt unit....but concerned about cooling.

Unhappy

Ok, so i hooked up the LED's and they weren't bright enough. So far, money invested for 2 lighting units, and 2 led's = $90. Brex has the right idea i guess, but if I want the red, i'll just stick with the red PMB lenses. Unless someone knows of a brighter LED light that will fit.

not sure if it's been mentioned but lighting gel; you can get at local art supply stores are heat resistant and comes in varying shades. I did my interior lighting w/ it on my A4 turned out pretty decent and the light diffuses nicely. That's if all the other options have been exhausted and you dont want to bust out w/ the magic marker
