Eisenmann race droning!

just installed a real eisenmann race section 3 on my e92 335i

my initial impression is that it sounds great WOT BUT very loud drone between 2k-3k revs (which is the norm for me becuz i always drive in city traffic)

given the popularity of this exhaust there must be some solution out there to limit the drone

i have seen some other posters experiencing similar problems but haven't been able to nail down the consensus view on how to fix this. some of the recommendations i have read include welding instead of clamping as well as adding resonators

any advice? i am going crazy with the drone!

BMW had part of the solution right by closing the driver's side exhaust at cruise, but with aftermarket exhausts, especially race exhaust systems, you're probably out of luck with the drone.

I believe he has the real deal

Kuvesh, you are still running the secondary cats? If yes, then it is really nothing much you can do

I have the same exhaust except that I took out the secondary cats, ie it probably drones more than yours

I went thru three exhausts to find one that doesnt drone, I ended up with Bastuck, but Im sure there are others too.

Other than that, Id try some resonators if its possible.

yeah still have the secondary cats in.... going to go down to the exhaust shop this weekend to see whether they can put in some resonators but over the phone they said probably no room

you fine the drone? for me you can hadly hold a conversation in the car when it kicks in and not really what you want after a tiring day at work....

I'll bet that you have an auto.
It's amazing because after every exhaust configuration I've done, I've never had any obnoxious drone when driving.

Manuals FTW!

Mine did not drone at all. I was fully catless too. Maybe there is a manual/auto variation in the way it sounds.

i do have an auto but i cant understand how that would make a difference because the drone happens on acceleration when in gear...

Itt's just that the autos love to throw the tranny in 5th gear when doing 45-50 on side streets.
Where as we manual drivers would keep it in 3rd or 4th.

It's because the gear you are in at the time is such a high gear for the speed you are going. I'll bet you that if you shift manually all the time and keep it in the lower gears, it won't drone.

Seriously, if I'm driving on a regular street, I rarely use 4th.
When I do use 4th, I'm going faster than 50.

you're probably right. before my new 335 i had a smg m3 and i barely got out of 3rd or 4th.... but the fuel economy was terrible...

Autos are great for saving gas on the city streets because they're always in the highest gear, but you do get the drone.

I just ordered an Eisenmann Sport from Julius because he said the Race would be obnoxiously droney.

Anyone running the Sport model on a 335 auto?

yeah it's called a break in period of 1-2000 miles...other than that i have no clue..but if it was just installed you need to break it in to get rid of the drone..there are threads and info all over and whoever did your install should have told you this..and every person who has gotten it says this system drones..why the hell would you buy it is so many complained about the drone..many though were early on..just wait for the break in period to pass in the mean time i would drive in Manual mode

We find that the Eisenmann sport is the perfect setup for the 335i.
either that or the Bastuck.

is this right? is there a break-in period, or is it rather the driver gets immune to the drone?

would be good to hear from someone whose been using the e-race for a while

There are those who say that the drone goes away after break in, but Ive not found that to be with other exhausts, so I dont think it will happen with this exhaust.

There are many threads about the Eisie droning. While I love the sound, the drone would drive me nuts.
