SOS faulty

Driving home this evening, got a "BING" looked at the dash and see I have an SOS malfunction, not too fussed I continued, until I heard a voice saying Fire, rescue, breakdown. I then realised my car had called someone, This guy asked me to cancel the call, to which I replied I was unsure how to, after a while he agreed to end the call.

Is this a known issue?

And if it happens again, how do I end the call?

Car is booked in for Monday morning, as I have other issues with the idrive, so hoping it can all be sorted at the same time.

Just want all these issues sorted, so I can go get the car down to Sal@evolve. No point going before BMW have sorted these quirks, as most likely end up updating he software and overwriting the map

Sib841607 & Sib841707

There are 2 TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) relating to 'SOS Malfunction' & were identified in September 07.
The malfunction may have caused the car to contact Assist erroneously.

The car can contact Assist itself (as a result of airbag deployment etc or malfunction) or you can do it manually (by pressing the 'SOS' button).
Once the call is set-up, I don't think you can cancel it, because it is only to be used in/as a result of an emergency- it's not the same as requesting BMW Info.
If it has been caused by a hardware/software error, then there's not much you can do about it, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Have a look here & here.

Your dealer will need to sort this out for you under warranty.

All the best.

Excellent info from Viv

To cancel a call you push the phone button on the steering wheel.

Just hope it will not ring up BMW to tell them you have a remap

I tried to cancel using the telephone button on the steering wheel, no response, no matter what I pushed, it still stayed up on the display, it remained like that for 15 minutes, then idrive returned to normal, but still had the warning SOS, just going to wait for the dealer to sort it

Maybe the engine thought it was on fire - after you'd given it a good thrashing.......

Just read this and had a worrying thought.

My car arrives in a few weeks with an SOS button. I also have a very inquisitive 3 year old boy who loves playing in my cars, pressing buttons etc. I think this could be a troublesome combination.

As my car isn't here yet so no access to a manual. Can anyone suggest my options to ensure Avon and Somersets emergency services don't appear on my drive one morning.

Don't suggest not letting my son in the car as that will never be practical. Also I believe the button is hidden under a cover. It will need to be padlocked to stop him!!! Can iDrive shut it down, require multiple button inputs, needs reprogramming or deactivating at the dealer?

Thanks

If i press the SOS booton in my car it calls the services?

Can you order a pizza with it?

There was a film once where a geeza pressed the SOS booton, and the person on the other end of the phone could start the engine for them, is this really true?

I'm sure the telematics installed only connect to BMW call centre who would relay to SOS services.

I know Alfa have something similar but you can also call for Pizza places etc
