Charging iPhone 3g in pre 6FL?

Anyone out there with both an iPhone 3G and the pre-6FL (older Alpine unit in glove box, not he USB in the center console) ipod adapter? I'm wondering if the charging functionality works.

Thanks!

I have that exact setup, and the phone doesn't seem to support charging... strange that the original iPhone worked so well, and this one seems to have its first hiccup already

Sheesh. What a pain. Guess I'm sticking with my 1st gen phone for now.

You or anyone else noticed any freezing when a 1st gen iphone first finds the bluetooth and/or gets connected to the ipod adapter? I am seeing this intermittently. Connect to the car and for the first minute or two it is either locked up or so slow it feels that way. It usually sorts itself out eventually, but once in a while the ipod part continues to be very slow to respond to manual track changes.

Best solution I've found for charging the 3G iPhone in cars without the USB port is this kit I got at WalMart for ~$15.

The nice thing about this adapter is the USB socket is on the side, so you can close the center console while connected with no problems. I couldn't find just the adapter, so I had to buy the whole kit, which includes a USB Mini 5, a USB Micro 5, and 3 ft. retractable USB extension cord. Not bad for under $15.

It would be nice if BMW can fix this so it charges the 3G iPhone, as they advertise on their website.

Actually, it doesn't charge with 6FL either, at least not some of them. Mine won't charge.

Just use the cord that comes with the iPhone . . . plug into the car's USB port - it charges!

No USB in the 2006 cars.

I think this may be a good solution to the 3G iPhone charging problem reported by others. Unfortunately, the adapter may not be available until September or even later...

SJM2208/17 is the part number on the package. BTW, I went to the Philips website and could not find the part number that is on the packaging. I was trying to find a package that contained just the USB Adapter with the plug on the SIDE (same as in the kit I bought) and could not find it. Let us know if you do.
