I have been made up my mind a while back that Im gonna trade in my car once the Camaro comes out, and plus i know the amount of money to maintain this BMW can be very pricey.

I plan to keep the car for about four years. By then I will likely want a new bimmer.

My feeling these days is that I will not keep a modern, electronic car like a BMW without some sort of warranty. I can imagine being told - sir to fix your blinker we need to replace a computer board or control module - only $1,000. It's a sensor that didn't tell you that you were low on oil - $500 for sensor.

I don't mind spending money but not what I expect these will cost to fix. And for someone who said - fix it yourself, that is becoming less and less possible which goes back to expense. You will need expensive computer to diagnose and reset.

Also gives me the excuse to buy new. This isn't to me only a BMW issue but all these new cars that count more on control modules and computers than they do mechanical parts.

My car insurance is with Geico and they offer MBI, mechanical breakdown insurance, an extended warranty for up to 7 years/100,000 miles. The cost is much less than an aftermarket extended warranty. Makes owning after manufacturers warranty expires less costly, that you won't get hit with big repair bills other than routine maintainence.

I try to get a new car just before the warranty expires, so every 4 years or so. If you keep a car any longer than that they loose to much value.

At the moment, I plan to keep it. If I can change my break (shoes and disc), that would be sweet. Cuz that is the deal breaker for me. I can do the other stuff like flush the oil, coolant, transmission, and air/oil filters. But I have never done a brake job and flush the break fluid (yike). I just don't understand how the break piston works and why/when do we need to bleed the break.
