Here is the oem E90 335i brace with the Hotchkis.

Note: How tiny and no tie-in to the rear subframe on the oem brace.

HP Autowerks, Inc. worked very closely with Hotchkis to expand the application to the E90's.

In the case of the E90's, This brace will add significant chassis stiffening since they didn't come with a full brace like the E92's. And since E90's didn't come from the factory with this brace, two additional brackets and bolts are required to complete the installation.

Here is what is required:

33-32-6-777-638 Bracket Left
33-32-6-777-639 Bracket Right

07-11-9-905-502 Hex screw X 2

Full installation with photos will be posted in a few days!

Price is $450 with FREE shipping to the 48 states.
As an E90 owner I was intrigued by this brace, but when the price was announced at $450 I was really taken aback.

I did a little research, starting with the above information. I found that mounting the stock E92 brace on my E90 would only cost $120 including the extra hardware from Tischer.

For the extra $330, what does this brace really offer in excess of the factory E92 brace besides exhaust clearance? This brace operates mostly in tension, right?

Can you post some pics of the increased clearance?

Thanks,
Rob

It's much more rigid than the oem brace.

Depends on the exhaust system you have, you will get an additonal 3/8" to 1/2" more clearance.

I ordered my Hotchkis brace from Harold and finally got around to installing it today. It might take about 30 minutes tops to remove the OE brace and install the Hotchkis brace on an E92. Two bolts at the rear (18mm socket) and eight bolts (6mm HEX) up front need to be removed/reinstalled, all very accessible with Rhino ramps in back.

Comparing the OE piece to the Hotchkis part, you know there will be an improvement. The car feels more solid and planted in corners with less flex, a worthwhile mod I think. Also, if you have a custom exhaust there is a good bit more clearance.

Some of you PM me regarding the polished version of this brace. First thing first, it 's not a polished finish, it's actually a nickel finish.

In addition, Hotchkis only made one polished prototype, which is currently installed on their own project vehicle. No production braces were made that way and none were ever sold.

However, Hotchkis is consider the nikel finish along with the gunmetal powder coat.

What do we need to do to fit this on an E90? Photos with clearance at resonators would be most appreciated!

I believe he said that this brace will not fit the e90 if you still have the resonator there.
I am seriously considering this since I wish my car felt a bit stiffer, but I don't want to sacrifice any more understeer/oversteer.

It will not affect understeer/oversteer. It just reduces flex in the chassis, which improves 'feel' and control. I'm betting it will reduce movement in the subframe as well.

C'mon Harold, put some fire under Hotchkis, get us a brace that fits the E90 w/ OEM exhaust. I view this as a critical component together with coilovers, sways, and LSD, for a proper suspension set up that can control our jumpy rear ends and allow us to put the power of the N54 to the road. Surely the half-shafts are more stable with this brace. Any issues with the fuel tanks? One would think that they would be a bit more protected, but it's hard to tell from just photos (I installed what amounted to a near full underbody skid plate on a 2002tii once -- but that car was subjected to unspeakable abuse off road...).

Hotchkis is aware of the issue for the E90's.
