Sirius Backorder?

Hey guys,

I just got my car back from the body shop after a month of repair. I had them put an M-Tech rear on and I love the style. I recently took my car in to have them put in the OEM alarm and fix a leaky sunroof drain and asked about getting Sirius installed. They told me the cost would be 1200 dollars total. I was shocked at this number and decided that I would rather install it myself. I asked them to order the part for my car (10/07 build e92 335xi) and they told me it was on national backorder, and that they haven't even filled orders placed in may. Does anyone know if this is true?

Even if you install it yourself, they'll need to reprogram the car. They get ya one way or the other. Not sure if it's on backorder or not.

That would be good news if it's true. I just started loading up on SiriusXM stock. Figured if the CEO just picked up 2 million shares for himself, he might know something most of us don't. At least it shows confidence in the company and at $1.30, seems like a good entry point.

When I bought my 335xi ~3 months ago, the Sirius satellite was on back order. Took almost a month.

Negotiate the price for the Sirius install.
The factory does it for $495 so much above that is just dealership doing what they do best, ripping you off.

I argued with the SA for my first 335i and told him it's already prewired for it, so it shouldn't be that much.
Got it down to $795 installed.

My 2nd 335i I just ordered it with Sirius.

As for the back order, well I don't know about that.

go to:

getbmwparts.com and do a search to see if they have the needed parts and what they will cost.
Then you can figure out what the parts costs and what the dealer (over)charging you for install.

Sirius rocks btw.
Glad they bought out XM
Hate that they call it Sirius XM now. Sounds silly.
I know they had to do it to "appease" XM and not make it look like what it really was..... the better company buying out the other, instead calling it an "equal merger".

I own a bunch of Sirius stock too.
Would love to see it go up to $10+ a share in the next year or two.

Sirius and XM just got the OK to merge this summer after 2-3 years.

That means you might need a new radio to receive programming from both systems.
So you should wait to install any satellite radio in the US. Or they might provide programming from both services for existing customers (so their hardware is not obsolete).

Price of the satellite services will be frozen for a few years.

So the delay will work in your favor.

No one knows if new hardware/radios will be required yet.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Actually, the merger was proposed Feb 2007, so it's only been about 1.5 years.

And NO NEW hardware is required.
All current radios will work since Sirius bought XM and all their sats too, so they can broadcast both to any reciever.

The new "package" deals will begin to be offered this fall so subscribers can mix and match the stations, keep all Sirius stations or keep all XM stations as they currently have.
I'm guessing 90% of people will mix and match.

All this info is available on Sirius.com

Correct, but the latter package you mention, will require new hardware.
