e90 roof bars - roof channel protectors

bought BMW-made roof bars for the E90 second hand on eBay. Right... Now to my joy, the manual says there are 4 'roof channel protectors' with L/R markings and a spring, which go under the roof bar at the mount points. The slight hickup is that they are not in the box........

Does anyone know if the lack of these 'channel protector' plastic bits means that installing the roof bars will do damage to the mount points? as it will be metal on metal... considering maybe some rubber strips instead as a diy solution.

Any ideas? much appreciated.

I would suggest that you purchase some double sided tape from a local walmart, and then cut either a rubber strip or some sort of plastic strip. The stip needs to be no longer than one half inch wide. My personal recommendation would be the plastic strip, since this would protect the metal portion of the frame better.

Hope this helps.
