335D and tuning box

Hi,

Anyone got experience of a tuning boxes? I've had one in my previous derv and it worked well. but just wondered if anyone had used them on thier BM and with what kind of success.

these guys http://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/ claim to take it from 286 to 330 bhp and push the torque from 580nm to 675nm.

Any feedback greatly accepted.

P.S. I pick her up tomorrow and may find it's quick enough for me and don't want anymore. I hate waiting .

edit. just noticed the piggy back thread, same thing i guess, please delete

I think it would easily give you 330bhp. Ive not tried a tuning box but they do give good power like a re-map but is a cruder way of tuning a very good engine.

Try the car for few thousand stock then go for the box.

Why is it cruder? what does a map do differently?

A map is a a file written for the car. Changes boost/fuel/timing througout the rev range and at different loadings etc. For bhp and torque increase without dramatically changing driveability.

A tuning box plugs into the fuel rail and upps fuel pressure to increase fuel in the combustion chamber. The ECU detects this and ups boost also. This way of tuning puts more pressure on the fuel pump and other parts of the engine.

Its tricking the ECU.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense when you think about it.

Map Vs boxes, they both have their positives and negatives.

Not all boxes simply up the fuel rail pressure, some clever ones increase the injector duration and work with the throttle position sensor.

+1 others intercept signals heading to the ECU and fool it into thinking it needs to provide more fuel, boost, etc. I would still prefer a reflash though.
