Summary Post for N54 Engine - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if we can create a post that delivers the latest and greatest information on some key issues that affect the N54 Engine. I am no noob but it has been difficult to get all the relevant info on the same post....

So here goes, serious posts please....

- What tunes are available for MSD81?

- Does Progman 29.2 or above detect tunes?

- Are there special detect mechanisms in MSD81 beyond Progman?

Just exploring whether I want to stay stock

Include in that "-pre and post 29.2 nav images"
Ooh, and "-what sticker to look for when you pull your ecu telling if it's 80 or 81."

the bottom line is the v81/29.2 is treated as a single entity by the current tuners. Jim C started to explain the differences (v81 prevents increase in torque, 29.2 merely detects it) but it was never confirmed/investigated. So, for all intents and purposes its the same thing, it detects engine tuning. The following tunes are invisible:

sstt
jb1
jb2 (with special install)
jb3 (modifies fuel pressure)
V3 (modifies fuel pressure)
dinan (bmw knows you have it anyway)
Helix says its invisible, but Art's car threw the detection code, helix said that it was because his fuel pump failed
i saw a post recently that said AA now has new software for 29.2, but haven't heard anything about it

I can answer the first 2;

- SSTT, JB1, JB3, V3, AA, Helix, Dinan, Noelle (Europe)

- Yes with 29.2, not sure past that version. Special maps needed for some of the above mentioned.

dinan does flash it, so i guess yes. but the piggybacks just know what trips it.
