Intake system & bmw warranty?

Will aFe air filter void my factory warranty?

"There is a law known as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty, that prohibits a manufacturer from void a warranty simply because you did not use a specified air filter. They must prove how the filter actually caused the problem."

Is this true, im sorry like ive done a lot of research but just havnt found the answer in a simple yes or no, is it possible that if i take my car in with a afe intake and tell me its not OEM and i lwill oose the no service charge and warranty for the car?

should i just sell it and buy the BMW one that is like over priced by 400?

It really depends on the dealer. It can really go both ways. I would go and ask just to be on the safe side.

so im going to do some more research, i think i might go ahead and instal my stock intake back in and sell this one, and but a new drop in filter cause that will give me the same horsepower but unfortunatly the engine noise will go down and there will be less throtal respose, pluss the silencer on the intake will be on. so i think i will go and buy a new muffler

+1 depends on the service advisor.

Just put the stock back on and when the dealers is done with your car, put the mod back in. Save yourself some pointless finger pointing.

ya like i gues takeing it in and out is an option but im just worried about breaking the MAF sensor when im working on it because they are $1000 each and that would be worst case senario because im taking it in and out everytime i go to the shop and that is like 2-3 times a year

no it doesn't... why does everyone think it voids your warranty????

call a BMW dealership (if youre worried about them knowing who you are, call a different one than the one you go to). Ask them about it... I've called 3 around chicago and they all specifically told me that for it to void your warranty, it has to be the cause of a malfunction and THEY have to prove it.

I even called one and asked about chopping the muffler and the guy was like, nope, don't see how that could cause any problems other than relieving some back pressure and being noisy. He asked me to stop by after I did it so he could hear it.

Trust me, anyone who says yes it will void, hasn't actually asked BMW about it, they just assume. I'm not saying go to BMW and advertise your mods, be cautious... however, if you go in with some faulty breaks they aren't going to say no we won't replace them since you have an intake. if you go in with a "check engine light" then I'd be smart and take the intake off before heading in... just in case.

ok that is exactly what i thought thank you for the info. when you hear other people talking about it you just start wondering. just logicly i couldnt understand how there could be so many intakes availbe and so many users that there could be could be a problem with intakes unless the problem was cause be ther filter its self.
