Just Took the 335 Through the Desert!

Hey guys,
I just got back from Vegas.
I just wanted to let you guys know about how well the car did in the 103 degree heat in the desert.

I'm running the JB3 now with the map switching, and I tried them all out during the drive. I have the switch in my glove compartment so I can easily switch from map to map when driving.
I mainly had it on the high boost map until I hit some light traffic.
When I was passing people, I needed to pass and then get back into the lane that I was initially in, so I felt that the low boost map was perfect for that--not too much boost, but enough to get me around the slow pokes.

My oil temps never got above 250 and was around 240 most of the time.
In the middle of the trip, I looked up the water temps just to make sure and they were perfect. The water temps were 100 to 103 when cruising and about 94-96 when WOT.

We made it from Pasadena to Mandalay Bay with one stop for gas at Baker in 3 hours and 12 minutes.

sounds like fun!! take any pics or vids?

p.s. did u have the JB3 1.1, the low boost map has been made more agressive, around 1-2 less/shy of what the high boost map.

So, how was Vegas?

I've never been there, but I've always wanted to go. The closest I've been is Atlantic City, but that place is a dump compared to Vegas from what I hear.

BTW, its good to hear that the JB3 performs well in the heat. Its been getting a bunch of solid reviews lately.

I have no idea with what version, but I think it's the latest.

Vegas is nice. Evil, but nice.
We got upgraded to a 1024 sq ft suite because it was our 5 year anniversary.

Vegas is nice. Evil, but nice.
We got upgraded to a 1024 sq ft suite because it was our 5 year anniversary.
I told them it was my birthday so they said they would upgrade me to the next room level up for $50 a night. The normal price was $250 extra a night so I said sure. The guy tried to find an available room but there were none and when he told me that I got kinda sad. Then he said he would have to upgrade me to the room two levels up from mine which was $500 extra a night, and he would have to only charge me $50 because he already said $50. The room was insane, two bathrooms, two flat screens, kitchen, etc..

So the lesson is if you ever go to vegas make sure you ask to be upgraded for whatever reason !!!

1.0 is the orignal version. 1.1 is the new ma p Terry has released mostly within the last week, but before for beta testing only. the offical release is next month for them. but JB3 are now coming with the new update map now. 1.1 has more psi down low, .5 less up top, more IAT decay and such. V stands for Prog. 29.2 or lata.
not sure if u missed it.

i need to find this secret menu!

You should have looked me up since you were here. I had a fellow JB3 member meet me up. I would have been interested to see your ride.

Dont you think water temp running at 100-103 seems a bit high? That's past boiling point!!! Am also running at around that temp when pushing my car hard in the city. Mind you, weather where i live is about 32 degrees celcius. Am getting worried about it.

Didnt have problems when i was running JB2. Temp seems rather stable in the 90s.

It was my anniveersary so if I would have spent time dealing with car stuff, my wife would have killed me.
But yes, it would have been nice to meet you.

Yes, I think that water at those temps are very high, but that's why there is something else in there called coolant.
It specificaly states on page 47 in the engine management pdf, located in the stickies in the forced induction section.

For the lazy, here is a cut and paste:

The engine control unit of the N54 engine controls the coolant pump according to requirements:
• Low output in connection with low cooling requirements and low outside
temperatures
• High output in connection with high cooling requirements and high outside
temperatures
The coolant pump may also be completely switched off under certain circumstances, e.g. to allow the coolant to heat up rapidly during the warm-up phase. However, this only occurs when no heating is required and the outside temperature is within the permitted range.
The coolant pump also operates differently than conventional pumps when controlling the engine temperature. To date, only the currently applied temperature could be controlled by the thermostat.
The software in the engine control unit now features a calculation model that can take into account the development of the cylinder head temperature based on load. In addition to the characteristic map control of the thermostat, the heat management system makes it possible to use various maps for the purpose of controlling the coolant pump. For instance, the engine control unit can adapt the engine temperature to match
the current operating situation. This means that four different temperature ranges can be implemented:
• 108C ECO mode
• 104C Normal mode
• 95C High mode
• 90C High + map-thermostat mode
The control system aims to set a higher cylinder-head temperature (108C) if the engine control unit determines ECO (economy) mode based on the engine performance. The engine is operated with relatively low fuel consumption in this temperature range as the internal friction is reduced.
An increase in temperature therefore favors slower fuel consumption in the low load range. In HIGH and map-thermostat mode, the driver wishes to utilize the optimum power development of the engine. The cylinder-head temperature is reduced to 90C for this purpose. This results in improved volumetric efficiency, thus increasing the engine torque. The engine control unit can now set a certain temperature mode adapted to the respective operating situation. Consequently, it is possible to influence fuel consumption and power output by means of the cooling system."
