New rear tyres. Strange handling..

I just replaced the rear tyres on my E90 325d.

It had Goodyear Eagle F1 all round, fitted around 20k miles ago.
Noted they were made in Thailand.

The new rears are made in china.

I'm not sure whether they need bedding in or not, or are just crap. I've done about 150miles since they've been fitted.

I've noticed, the steering has become 'sensitive'.
Similar to the tramlining effect I originally noticed on the E46 series.

The car feels as if it is weaving down the road, almost as if there is no side wall support on the rear tyres, causing the rear to slew round slightly.

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Checked the tyre pressures all round and they're the same as I had with the previous F1's.

It just doesn't 'feel' safe now...

If you google 'Chinese goodyear f1' you will see others with the same problem as you.....

A typical thread - appears they can be manufactured for different climates - Ones marked with an 'E' are suitable for a colder European climate. German made ones are the ones to go for apparantly?

The wheel nuts are torqued correctly ?

I remember many moons ago having a rear wheel work its way loose on a Mk1 Escort I had.

Comically entertaining handling ensued until I slewed to a halt and tightened up the nuts.

Thanks for that info..

When it stops pissing down with rain, I'll go and look for the E marking and check my nuts....

Hope I haven't wasted nearly 200

My PS2's felt a bit odd for the first 100-200 miles or so - squirmy

The blocks of rubber that make up the tread pattern will be at there tallest and softest when brand new. They'll take a few heat cycles to "go off" and then deliver the grip you expect. To begin with the rear of the car may feel loose, but it'll get better. Should be fine within 200-300 miles.

tyres also have a releasing agent that gets absorbed by the very outer rubber... this wears off quickly but can feel like you're skating on ice !

used to be a bit scary on a two wheeler that's for sure.

It's because of the release agent to get the tyre out of the mold as James (He's just got a copy of my sig. Viv ) said. They'll be OK when "scrubbed in".

I've experienced this in a previous car, felt like a gentle wallowing when I have holding the wheel really straight (on a straight road).

Found that 2 psi more sorted the problem.

Also, as mentioned tyres an take a while to bed in, some I've had have only take a 5 min squirt around town to get rid of the 'agnet' in the rubber, others have taken 300+ miles before proper grip was felt.

Have to say, although I didn't notice where they were made, that my last set of tyres were F1 Asyms and they took about 100-120 miles before I felt comfortable with them.

I once had this on a Mazda RX8 I owned.

I had arranged to part-ex the car, so it was going in a few days, then typically, I got a blo*dy puncture in one of the rears.

If I remember rightly, the car had Bridgestone Potenza`s on already, but rightly or wrongly, (as you do), I wasn`t going to spend money on another Bridgestone only to sell it in two days time, so I duly put some sort of budget tyre on.

I couldn`t believe the difference !

Even in a straight line, you could really feel the car trying to squirm at the back, and as the Mazda is RWD, you could feel it even more-so.

I wouldn`t have believed an "alien" tyre could have made such a cock-up of the handling.

Fickle little buggers, are tyres............

Got the info mixed up on the tyres.

The new ones on the rear are made in Thailand, the original were Chinese!!

Done nearlly 250 miles now and not noticed any changes. Although the weather isn't helping....

The earlier problems referred to were in 2006. I suspect they've sorted those now, assuming no old stock exist....

These have the correct markings. E13 etc.

I'll have to persist for a while longer.
