Dinan intake install with tons of pics.

After installing the Dinan Intake I noticed throttle response improved and the car pulls nicely to red line. I hear more of a sucking or vacuum sound from the engine. We had to mold some plastic. There was a little gap with the snorkel that fits to the stock air box. Overall, fitment was very good. I also cut out the carbon/charcoal filter, and intalled RPI scoops at the same time. The only other intake I would have considered is the BMW Performance Intake. I like how Dinan kept the closed air box design, and found a way to channel more air into the engine. On paper the concept resembles how BMW engineers designed the intake for the E9X M3. I added a drawing below how the M3 intake works.

Check Tischer BMW HERE.

Dinan is all about solid proven engineering for BMWs and is never cheap.

Pics added.

My opinion is this intake is better than Injen, which has no shielding. I'm just not a fan of those designs unless your running turbos. In every car I've installed an Injen intake, only benefit was the sound. It's really personal preference.

I am glad you like it. Thanks for buying it from me. My Dinan exhaust will be for sale after the winter. I know you got the Rouge but maybe someone else wants it who sees the thread. I will just need a stock exhaust back.

Nice Pics! I've been on the fence about getting either the Dinan or the BMW Performance intake. I'm leaning towards the BMW due to my extended warranty. Plus, I can't come to grips with paying that much for, what looks like, some powder coated aluminum and dryer duct. But, If its as good as you say it is...maybe.

Thanks for posting Miroslav.
Very clean install and straight forward I got a question.
Did you remove charcoal filter on the back half of the intake box or you left it alone?
If bmw decided that keeping the box instead open filter, there must be a good reason.
Great job on install and writeup!

I wonder if its possible to make a knock off?

Yes, we removed the charcoal, or some call it the carbon filter, behind the air filter. There is a very good reason BMW engineers, and Dinan engineers stick with a closed box design!

No, this is exclusive to the NA N52 Engine, 330, 325 328

Yes, you use the stock air box as part of the design.

Yes, you use the stock air box. Dinan has you cut a portion of the box by using a template, and then fit a the platic tube with rivets which is where the tube feed a greater volume of air to the box. And yes it doesn't look like much...or cheap...or like you can make one yourself...but you have to consider what it was designed to do, and how. A GT2 LeMans race car doesn't have the prettiest engine bay, interior, or wheels, but it's how they perform that matters most.

No doubt the BMW Performance Intake looks nice, but I actually like how this feeds more air at a greater volume. I'd go with either, but just happened to get a good deal on this. To my point above, it looks like a POS, but it's what it was designed to do. BMW engineers have more experience on building and tuning cars for me to question them...

I totally thought the Dinan units was an intire new air box. Looks a bit labor intensive but outcome looks great!

couldn't you just combine this concept with the bmw performance intake and technically have 3 sources of air?

sure you could do that, but you'd be drilling into an 800 dollar intake... and the dinan piece that fits on the box itself might not fit... so you'd have to modify it or just make your own "dinan" ram air kit

Correct, it wouldn't make much sense doing that just for the sake of more air. The Dinan intake was designed to work with the stock air box, not BMW performance air box. I still love this mod!

Still glad your happy. I just sold my Dinan exhaust. I had one of the techs at my dealership do it for the customer. He LOVES IT. I am returning my car next friday and i am going to miss is BAD. Espically the sound. My GTI is a GREAT car but it is not BMW. The GTI will be better when I get the APR Stage 1 done to it next week. It will get it up to 256hp and 303tq at the crank. After than it will be faster than my 330i for sure but thats about the only things that is does better than my 330i except cost less.

Welcome to the forum. You can search for threads about the BMW Performance Intake in the sub forum. Here are some threads other members have posted.

The Dinan intake will give you about a 5hp gain. The numbers aren't much, but your popo meter (butt dyno) will feel a difference after installing it. I noticed improved throttle response, and the engine pulls a bit harder to red line. It draws additional air from the lower bumper much like the E9X M3.

No. It will not fit because of the brake duct and front bumper design. Check with Dinan directly to see if they're coming out with one.

On the other hand, there is a OEM BMW Performance Intake offered for the 128i N52 engine. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462
