I'm sorry guys because I know that this has been beaten to death, but I'm trying to make a decision about the tires to get on my new wheels and it's killing me. Please be nice with the dead horse smilies.

I currently have General UHPs, 235 front and 265 rear and it bugs the crap out of me that there is so much wheel exposed.
I want to step up the width so bad but I'm a family man.
I haul my family around and I don't want to be rubbing everywhere.

For those who have this setup and are currently using the General UHPs then please give me your input.
I understand that the e92's wheel well isn't as wide as the e90 so if you also have an e90 then that would be great to hear your experiences.
Please give me your input.

I will say from personal experience, I had the generals. The generals in 235/265 are REALLY thin. I would say that they fit more like 225/255, which to me, is dangerous for the rim/bad for traction.

245/275 should fit on the e90, but you might have slight rubbing with the 245s just depending on the model tire you choose.

As a safe alternative:

I ordered vredestein ultrac sessantas in 235/265, and they are WIDE. I mean, to the point where they almost look like 245/275 (can reference my pics in many threads...I would post again..and I can if you want...but man, Ive been a picture whore real badly)

Where the generals provided no rim protection, the vredesteins have quite a large lip over the edge, and really provide great protection.

I know from experience, while the generals feel fine now, when you switch to a better tire (with more protection as well), it will be night and day for you. Honest.

Try the vredesteins from performanceplustire (just where I found them the cheapest...), they didnt cost much more than the generals, but I would say they are infinitely more protective, and the quality of the tire is hard to even compare, theyre amazing.

(so you can see how far out the tires go...compare those to most manufacturers 275 size..and this looks like it covers almost as much)

They are a great all purpose tire and they wear great!

You can't be serious. My rears wore quick and cupped badly. The sidewall is as soft as warm butter and flexes all over the place during any kind of hard cornering. They can't hold a line and make an otherwise tight car feel sloppy. I am so surprised by the popularity of this tire choice by members who are 'enthusiasts' (not referring to you specifically). If you have any kind of aftermarket suspension, you are wasting it with Generals. You get what you pay for.. just my 2cents.

I actually understand your frustrations since my friend was feeling the same as you.
This is the way I feel...I don't give a crap about how well they corner because these tires are specificaly for my daily driver.

I purchased these tires since it was inexpensive and it provided exactly what I was looking for. My rear tires went a good 23k freeway miles before I needed to change them.
But, that's the thing...I drive around 100 miles a day on the freeway and I need a good tire for when my 12 second car decides to drive my family around.

IMO, if you are a real enthusiast, then you would have a set of track tires for the track and these tires for the street.
Because, let's face it, I'm not cornering at 60mph on the street since I like to hold on to my licence.

Funny i saw this thread today as my girlfriend just mounted up a set of Nitto Invo 245/40/18 on 18x9 +30 wheel all around. Shes lowered on KW V2 and has no problems with rubbing whatsoever.

I cant say I think they are decent tires..but they do get okay tread wear and they wont weigh much...

So if staying with generals is what you want..size them up to 275/245, and with how thin the generals are...you wont have a chance of rubbing

(but if you would stray...falken 452's, vredesteins....would be infinitely better tires, and the treadwear would be similarish, while sparing your rims)

I'm running Michelin PS/2s on 19x8.5 et35=>235/35 and 19x9.5 et30=>275/30 on my e90. No issues with very spirited driving.

Had 275 generals on my Morr 162s (9.5" et 32) and not even a hint of rubbing. I initially ran 265s but - like you - was unnerved by the amount of exposed rim. To be candid, the 275 is only mildly better. It's just the way that the Generals are cut I guess.

FWIW I have 265/35/18 Michelin PS2 on my new 9.5" rims and there is a ton more rim protection than the 275 General.
