My SSTT adapted almost imediately. After install took it on a highly spirited 20 minute drive and the difference was day and night, and still is.If i ever upgrade though its JB3 for sure. But for now the SSTT and BMS single intake keeps me very happy.

Anyone have hard evidence that this thing is undetectable once disconnected?

You are kidding right?

Once you unplug it and the ECU adapts back, how can anyone detect that you had an SSTT on there unless you tell them.

You could test on a dyno/dragstrip/Gtech/Vbox, etc, and it would show a power increase. Out of all these methods, obviously having your own test equipment will be more practical than having to run to the track or dyno. Perhaps you can borrow a Vbox/Gtech from a friend?

Read up. BMW inserted code in the ECU to be able to retain instances of "abnormal" engine functions caused by these devices.

The ECU retains errors and information for a LONG time. They were able to tell that my steering column threw a code some days, if not weeks, after the fact, even though the indicator was long gone.

Dude, just go to your local gas station and try to find race fuel (101 UNLEADED). And make sure your tank is almost empty and fill half of it with 101 race fuel, then hit the fwy. Then come back and say hi..

SSTT, like all other modern tunes, is undetectable

It doesnt throw any hidden codes

So, stop sweating, get driving

No, I'm suggesting it's possible, unless the SSTT has done something to contravene the measures taken by BMW to detect "performance enhancements" which monkey with the boost.

It's the open question for me...

Its NOT an open question...

Its been discussed on this forum in multitudes of threads already. Regarding the SSTT, the V3, the JB3

All three options are not recognizable by BMW measures. All three do not trip any sort of hidden codes. The only way this would occur, is if you were running a V3 or a JB3 with maps not designed for 29.2, and you were running with too much torque down low to trip the signal.

With the SSTT, it does not regulate boost in the same way these other tunes do, and by pure design, it is 100% not detectable. Not even after you have removed it. The car's ECU will always have record of running within stock spec with the SSTT (or the V3/JB3 with appropriate maps). This has been discussed in length

No need for another thread about this

/thread (mods?)

Appropriate tune use won't show up on a normal simple scope procedure. It appears that BMW has adopted a reasonable attitude in regard to moderate tuning. That said, if you do extreme things to your drivetrain don't expect BMW to pay for the consequences.

There is no one on this list that I know of that has a deep understanding of the algorithms that the FAS system uses to assess engine use history. The R&D folks have been working with Alpina and others for quite some time on various tunes. It seems na´ve to assume that they could not detect tune use if they really wanted to.

Understood, I was just commenting on how it has been to date. If you use the proper maps, and this is just regarding a tune, not downpipes, not other mods etc. Then with current BMW procedures, it has been accepting of current tunes, SSTT being the one that never really cast a doubt b/c of its very mild nature. Whatever they currently check for, properly used tunes do not show up. Not to say that just like their 29.2 update, they couldnt in the future make yet another that checks for more parameters that would prevent tune usage altogether. But like anything else in this world, programmers adapt

No one knows for sure and if they say they do they are lying. The manufacturer says it cant be detected but what do you expect them to say.
