USB Retrofit on Nav Professional Systems

Hi

I'm just about to purchase a 57 plate 335d M Sport Touring which has a good selection of options but i've just found out doesn't have the USB input. It was sold to me as having that.
So last night i did quite a bit of search and i found out that, currently if you have the Business system in my car you could have the 200 plus 3 hour fit retro fit from BMW. But if you had the Professional system it's not possible.

Note i'm talking about the USB (6FL) retrofit. Please anyone buying a new car - spec your car with this! Not the IPod specific retrofit or the Denison version.

Now forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere (but despite hours of reading posts relating to USB, retrofit and Professional system i've yet to see a similar post).

So this morning i called a about to see if i could source a similar car (the dealer said i could have my deposit back as it was mis-sold to me) with USB input. No joy.
So i called up a dealer and asked how easy it would be retrofit. Not possible was first answer unless you have the Business package.

Called up another - he said he'd get back to me and guess what............

On the BMW parts system is a retro-fit for the Professional system!!
It's still in testing so not available to order as yet, but an engineer from his dealership has been on a course and its expect Q1 2009. No firm prices, but its priced similarly to current retrofit. So 200 or thereabouts.

I then called back my local BMW garage and told them what i had found out and they said that it is on the system as i'd been told.

So there is light at the end of the tunnel for some of us. Not sure about the pre 3/07 cars.

I thought i'd share some good news for first post

Cheers

Ian

That would be good news.

Pop into the UK specific section of the Forum where many of us have 335Ds (not available in the US yet).

This is excellent news! Finally, some fairly concrete evidence that the kit is coming instead of the usual "he said, she said" business.

Do you happen to have the BMW Part Number, so we can check with our local dealers as well? I'm getting this done as soon as it's available!

Thank you for the heads up, misterS3, and welcome to E90post!

Hi, sorry i didn't ask for a part number.
It was on the BMW parts ordering system and confirmed by dealers in Herefordshire and Glasgow so i'd be pretty confident it's coming

This is a thread running with all this info.

You can actually retrofit it already but one of the parts (the usb hub) is currently out of stock.

If you have nav of any sort I warn you now this is not a cheap retrofit, the retrofit parts are 190 +vat. The coding takes minutes.

Install is 2 hours for cars with bluetooth and voice and 2h30mins for cars with nav.
Cars with nav do not however have the MULF2 Hi, and this is essential, only cars that have bluetooth voice and no nav come with this as standard.
You have to have this MULF2 unit and it cost around 600+vat and is not included in the retrofit. Bringing the total cost to nav owners to over 1000.

Make sure you get in writing that your dealer will retrofit the 6FL option when it arrives.

I should add, when I say you can already retrofit it you do it by hooking up the parts and changing your vehicle order, when the retrofit kit arrives officially it will be part of the coding programme.

Cheers for the advice. I'm sure some of you guys have been waiting much longer than me so i'll expect there to be a queue by the time i get there!

Just so i understand cars with Nav and Bluetooth dont have the MULF2 Hi (i'll be honest and say i don't know what it is exactly - will go off an read up!) which is required for the USB 6fl retrofit?

I ask because from what BMW told me today, 6fl on my car with BMW Business (that's the only thing they asked me) would 195 plus 3 hours labour @ 92 plus VAT.
And my digging led me to believe that the up-coming retro fit 6fl is to take care of the BMW Professional cars. But they didn't mention anything more than the 195 parts.

Sorry it is HERE, only a few posts down.

Give me your email address and I will email you the retrofit instructions.

Have you got the car?? Lift the boot floor up and check what bluetooth module you have.

Professional Nav has voice built into it, where as the radios do not, therefore cars with bluetooth and voice are fitted with the latest all in one module that is both bluetooth and voice (it also happens to be the USB controller).
If you have a car with professional nav and bluetooth, but no usb, you will get the regular ULF which is just bluetooth, as the voice is already in the nav unit.

Now, I think the business nav doesn't have the voice either so on cars fitted with business nav, bluetooth and voice you also get MULF2 HI, which means that yeah you can retrofit usb with just the USB hub and the cables.

I'm not sure what nav you have, the title says Prof. nav, but in the last post it sounds like it is business. If it is the latter you should be fine, if it is the former it will be pricey.

Hope that helps.

This also applies to US cars as far as I know. And all us cars with 6FL and no bluetooth can also get bluetooth added with a simple coding by an independant garage or if you download the software and get a cable.

Don't get the car until end of the month. Long wait for a long drive (glasgow to South Coast! - 9 hours!)

After reading all the usb retrofit threats I got a bit confused...

I have a 335i m sport touring, build end of 2006 with navi pro, Bluetooth and voice control.
My dealer said they have no experience with retrofitting the 6fl usb and that it probably will not work.

So can you guys tell me if and how it is possible for my car?

So this is for the navigation pro? So its possible now? What's the estimated cost?

Edit: Nevermind. After reading again, looks like that is for Business (which we don't get here)

Thanks,
Dan
