Finally picked up my new car!

Just thought this was kind of cool so I'll post it. Picked up my new E90 LCI today from Calgary BMW yesterday. Montego blue E90 with xdrive and pretty much everything except sound.

One of the SA's, I believe his name was Neil, came up to me while I was doing the walkaround and introduced himself as a member on E90Post and just wanted to thank me for supporting Calgary BMW. Just thought it was a nice gesture and it was pretty cool that someone at a dealership would recognize who I am in person based on the threads on E90Post.

Oh and I'm loving that car. Took 2 hours to put the automotive masking tape on the front so I could drive it back to Edmonton but it was so worth it (came back home and I saw pieces of rock chips embedded into the tape - 3M is being done tomorrow morning in Edmonton). And I think I pissed off a lot of people varying my speed between 80 and 120 on the way back to Edmonton this morning.

I'll add some more pics. I brought my DSLR along so I got some photos but not many great ones. I'll wait until the spring to do a photoshoot once I get my 193M rims on and when the weather isn't so bad.

For my trip back to Edmonton, to prevent damage to the paint before I get the 3M, I used a mix of contact shelf paper and also automotive masking tape.

In hind sight, I would have used the automotive masking tape only. It was kind of expensive though ($10 a roll at Walmart) and I used up the entire roll already in that pic. The contact paper leaves a lot of bubbles and it was really hard to work with. Maybe it's just because the LCI has those grooves on the hood but it just didn't work well. That and because it was -30 that day, the contact paper became brittle. The little bubbles had holes in them from small rock chips (luckily, I guess the frozen contact paper slowed it down enough not to do any damage to the paint).

From a distance, it sort of looks like a rally car with a bad paint job now.

Congrats. Why didn't you just get the 3M done in Calgary before the trip back home?

Ha I should have asked Neil for a card before I left.

Anyway 3M is getting done right now as we speak. I got it done aftermarket in Edmonton because I know two people at that store and so I got 30% off the bumper, hood, mirrors, and headlights done.

Decided not to tint at the end because that aftermarket stuff can peel off scratch and given how cold it is here, it might start cracking. I already had one hell of a time last night in the garage trying to get the electrical tape to stick. I removed the ashtray and put in the sunglasses holder. I also did the lighting mod for it too by removing and rewiring the LED's from the ashtray (I drilled on the front instead because I thought it'd be a cool effect if they shone up instead of down and it sort of matches the small orange LED's near the map lights). Sorry for the blurry photos.

Thanks for the comments guys. Now I know why you guys love BMW so much. Oh man does it feel good to drive!

Pricing was available September 17. Prior to that I dropped by the dealership to try to get things sorted out before.

Car arrived on December 5 and they needed time to detail. Earliest I could head to Calgary was the previous weekend (December 12). So a little less than 3 months? Shipping took a while though. I thought it would be a bit faster for the shipping but I guess it goes from Munich to Halifax and then through the rest of Canada before arriving in Alberta.

Just got the 3M today and also installed the base plate and ejector plate for the iPhone 3G adapter. Now waiting for my new side blinkers.

Congrats man, I'd be a little more discrete if I were you. Some SA's lurk around these forums and would be more than happy to void your warranty if they can prove you've modded something that's critical. Seen it happen before on Bimmerfest.

Oh I think they know. I actually asked them if it'll void warranty. I'm only using OEM parts purchased through the dealership. It should have no effect on the warranty plus it's only voided if they trace the problem back to the mod. Not planning on any other major mods like performance mods in the future but thanks for the heads up.

And yes, I know they lurk the forums which is how they know me.
