e90 330i sport package suspension mod question

hi all,

i've been lurking on the susp forum for a while now, and wanted to get the experts advice. i have an e90 330i w/ sport pkg, currently unmodified. where i think ideally i'd like to get to is closer to the feel and handling of my friend's car; an e46 330i w/ perf pkg. its quite a bit stiffer, tighter, and still liveable.

i've so far read reviews here on the forum on the dinan setups, some of the aftermarket setups (konis, bilsteins, etc), and now a couple of reviews of the bmw perf suspension...

my question to the experts is, in your opinion, what gets you the closest to the e46 perf pkg setup? i realize that setup had some M3 bits in it as well, but if i'm just changing shocks/springs, what would be my best bit? i'd also like to preserve the original ride height on my vehicle (w/ sport pkg it seems low enough for me)

For under 1k you can get the BMW Perf package -- dampers, springs, M-sport rear sway.

That is as close to ZHP/M-sport as you are likely to get. Beyond that swapping out suspension bits for M3 parts is a good route.

The ride height should be only a bit lower than ZSP, not as much as the aftermarket Coilover minimums (1").

Light forged wheels & non-rfts will make a big difference too.

I can tell that the coilovers are to low for you (they were for me too), but if you know what you are doing, they are probably the best route you can go.

If you want something that works well out of the box, tuned by the BMW engineers, they as Stressdoc said, the performance package is perfect. It starts off real abusive, but give it 500 miles and it really starts to mellow into a nicely tuned suspension.

Dinan uses koni shocks in their setups, and then they add springs, rollbars, and camber plates depending on which kit you get.

If you don't want to lower your car any further, koni yellows with your stock sports package springs will tighten up the ride by a decent amount.

For a little bit more than the koni yellows, you can get the performance package that Fraggy is talking about above.
