what requires ordering from the factory?

why would REQUIRE me to get it from europe instead of buying it straight from the lot? is it the color (if the dealer doesnt have a specific color)? or what kind of options can the dealership not install themselves?

thanks

None, you can always custom-order as you wish. I think BMW is one of the few where a huge majority custom order. And they make it fun too, making tracking info accessible. Also, when you custom order you can choose from a few delivery options, including Euro Delivery and Performance Ctr Delivery (S. Carolina). If you can wait the 6-8weeks for your new car, I'd recommend ordering, it makes the car feel more special...

There are many threads on ordering, tracking...have fun reading.

The ones on the lot typically aren't stocked with the extra options you may want. If one wasn't built with specific options you want, and you really wanted it, you'd have to order it new. For example, my local dealer's lot's typical car is simply one with Steptronic + Premium pkg +/- Sports pkg. They don't typically have one with Navi or Comfort Access, unless it's used and the original owner had that stuff on it.

Accessories are dealer-installed. Most other options are factory-installed (ie. can not be added by the dealer later). For example, you can get a rear deck spoiler added at the dealer at anytime, but you can't get Comfort Access or a Sports pkg added at the dealer (after delivery).

BTW when you say "from Europe" I'm assuming you mean ordering NEW, rather than the European Delivery (ED) option - you're never required to do ED unless you want the experience of picking it up after production and having fun driving in Europe.

So make sure you know what's not possible to add after your car is delivered so you don't regret it!

Any "option" must be installed at the factory. You can see the list of options on one of the pricing sheets. Like the one in this post.

There's nothing better than going to where your new car was fabricated by doing an ED and if you're really short on time and don't want to go to Munich for even a few days to save a lot of money, do a Performance Center delivery
and take a hot lap with Donnie Isley or one of the other professional drivers for the thrill of a lifetime. If you have any questions, contact me !

I was very impressed how you were able to go around those turns sideways and never go off the edge of the track.I think the only thing that could top that performance would be to go around the Neurenbergring with you !
