New E90 in production at the paint shop???

A few weeks back I ordered a new 2007 E90 (328xi) and as of this morning it tells me the car is in production (in the paint shop) with a scheduled completion date of 9/5/2006.

My question is it seems a little odd if the car is scheduled to be completed by 9/5/06, why would it be in the paint shop? I would have thought it would be painted before assembly. Have others seen their vehicles hit the paint shop right before completion?

Check out the Order Status Reference Chart (it's a sticky in this forum) here: http://e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9224

Paint shop = 152 status
Assembly = 153 status so it looks like that's next.

Maybe the scheduled completion date refers to the current step in the process (ie. paint shop)?

Mine's currently in the Body Shop (151 status) with a scheduled completion of 9/6 so it still has all those other steps to go through, so my guess is the date is for the current step.

Maybe someone else can verify this.

OK, I understand now. So it's just started production, not finishing production. I would be nice to be able to see a running list of each status and when it started and ended each.

Yea that would be nice if BMW provided it but it seems the only way is to keep track of it yourself every day, which I've seen some members do. If you do a search for "timeline" there are a few posts that show a long day-day breakdown of the status. Worth looking up if only to get a rough idea of what the wait times have been like for others.

Personally, I'm not upto being a chronic status checker to put a comprehensive list together LOL

My car is next to yours I guess...started production on 30th...in paint now...should be done on the 6th...wonder if it can possibly make the ship leaving Bremerhaven on the 8th?! If not it will be the 15th...

How do you know there's a ship leaving on the 8th? What time of the day does it leave?

Also does anyone know how many days steps 153 (entry assembly) to 155 (Assembly finished/quality check) takes? If mine is finishing up paint today, and assembly goes fast, perhaps I can make the 8th.

Plug in the data...

About a day...it takes some time to ship to Bremerhaven so the 8th is probably unrealistic...

NY is a LONG way from AZ...southern west coast cars come into Port Hueneme in SoCal.

On it's way!!!

So I called this morning for an update and the automated system said: "Your vehicle was released to a carrier and is awaiting transportation to a port of exit.

Yesterday, when the system was reporting your car as in paint, it was reporting mine as in production (where it had been since last week). This morning my status went to "in assembly." So the automated system skipped right over paint for me. I am supposed to be complete on 9/7.

EDIT: Called this afternoon (same date as this post) and Customer Relations reported that the car was complete, had been released to sales and distribution, and was on its way to the port. LOL, OC is still reporting "scheduled for production." I'll have the car before that updates.

Turns out I was using the automated system and the for the last 4 days it kept telling me it was in the body shop. So I decided to talk to a customer rep. and to my delight he told me the car has already completed production and is waiting to be transported to a ship

So yea the auto phone system skips around or isn't 100% accurate.
