335d Engine Compartment
Some pics. Wonder how this puppy will respond to tuning?

The 335d should respond very favorably to tunes. Once the restrictive exhaust is removed, I anticipate 400-450whp and oodles of torque.
Of course this is all just fact-less speculation on my part on what "feels right". |

It will be a fun day when the 335d is gunning for our 1/4 mile records

I'd say 350-380whp. ESS reflash makes 335hp and 630Nm (335d). Keeping in mind that 335i with ESS reflash (stage 3) makes almost the same power as Vishnu or JB3, a well tuned 335d shouldn't exceed 370-380whp, imo. Nevertheless, performance would be impressive.

Go to the UK section - There has already been well over 2 years of development on these engines.
No need to speculate. D.

I think the 335d will always need more peak power than the 335i to get similar times just because the torque curve peaks/plateaus at a much smaller RPM range. It only has a redline of 5000 RPM, compared to our 7000 RPM.

A tuned 335d runs 106mph in the 1/4 mile, no match for a tuned 335i.

I'm pretty sure the turbo set up is totally different. Someone had even said they were sequential. I haven't had the time to read up on it though. I am really interested in the torque capacity of the transmission though. As these engines put out around 400lbs of torque stock!

Sequential bi-turbo. Little one for low rpm, quick spooling; big one for serious power.

Someone said 30psi.. Sounds like a stretch but it's obvious the Tranny already can take an enormous amount of stock torque, but anything in the close to 500 torque range would be brutal on traction and without the topend HP - I can't imagine beating 335i drag records.

as Dave_3 said, there's already been 2 years of development in the UK for the 335d. There have been plenty of back to back tests on road and track. The latest one had standard, press cars and tuned versions of 335i and 335d, and around the track the tuned ones were identical in lap times. So no, nothing in it at all reallly, although there's not as much tuning products available (exhausts etc)
