Can't connect wireless

Just bought a Gateway laptop and can not get the wireless networking to connect to the internet. I know the router/access point works and the laptop lists it under available networks but it will not connect. It is driving me crazy! I disabled all firewalls and nothing. Any ideas?

First thing try restarting the router (unplug... wait... replug), and reboot the computer.

If you've already tried this I have no idea but that solves any problem I've ever had since wireless routers cost $500.

BTW... I'm assuming you're saying that it can't connect to the network at all not that when you open a web browser it isn't getting an internet connection.

What happens it just hangs? Is there an error message?

It just says "unable to connect to the network", no internet either. when I look at available networksconnections my router appears with good signal strength. This really sucks since my old laptop still connects perfectly

The Gateway uses "Broadcom Wireless Utility. I tried using windows instead but no go.

Works fine when wired to the same router. I'll probably call or e-mail Gateway during the day.

You tried shutting everything down and then restarting the computer/router?

Is it possible there is a maximum number of wireless connections allowed somewhere? Either in your settings or as a limitation of a router?

I'll give that a try.

Alright, thanks to all that replied. I did two things at the same time so not sure which one wrked. Probably a combination of both.
1: updated the router's firmware as suggested by BadBob
2: under configure card I changed the 54g from 802.11b only to Auto
I'm now connected without any problems.

If you really want to know which one works, go and change your #2 back to what it was. if it still works, then the firmware was the problem.
