how do TPMS work

if i buy new rims w/o tpms, can i use tpms from my old set of wheels?

do tpms work with all rims/wheels? i guess i'm not sure how these things work.

The TPMS is located in your rims on the tire stem valve. When you turn on your car theres a receiver on the tire well that sends out a signal to the transponder in the rim. That activates the system and tells the receiver if the tire is low on pressure. So, if you are still using your stock rims.

As a rule of thumb, most tire shops/installers will recommend you replace the TPMS units for each wheel WITH wheel replacement. The older set should work fine ........ then again, you won't know if there's a problem until AFTER the tire/wheel is mounted back on the car.
Better to be safe than sorry, right?
