the reason he gave you a ticket is He wants to go to Court, for he gets paid going to Court on his time off.

now you know, why!
kaching!!!

as for your stored points on DMV, you can go online and for $8 you can pull your drivers record to see How much credit points you have accrued. its +1/yr for every year of clean driving. (5 max)

Thanks, ase. I went online to check my point balance. +3... I thought, WTF? Why not +5?

But then I looked at my record -- totally clean, but I've only lived in VA for 3 years. D'oh! I was a DC resident for most of my life here.

In any case, I'll bring the printout of my clean record anyway and I'll let you guys know how it goes. This would be a 6-point ticket, the same as a freakin' DUI. I know I said that before, but that's pretty ridiculous in this case. It also would bring me to -3 points, which doesn't sound so good.

I know how you feel. I got caught by a FHP doin 89 in a 55, in a 550i. Perfect driving record, $305.50 ticket. Any faster, reckless driving. I learned my lesson. Until I get a K40 lol.

Don't they have traffic school there. In most counties in Washington you can defer your ticket for 1 year. You go to traffic school, pay the same amount as your ticket in tuition, and the ticket doesn't go on your record. If you reoffend within 1 year you get all of it though, so it's aimed at normally good drivers who screw up every once in a while. You can also only defer one ticket every 7 years.

PBJ

No, not peanut butter and jelly. Here in Maryland, judges can decide to give you probation before judgement, which does not result in any points and does not appear on your driving record--so no adverse impact on your insurance premiums. You do have to abide by the probation terms, but there usually aren't any. I don't know if PBJ is available in Virginia, but it may be worth a call to a lawyer who handles traffic stuff and find out. If it's available, you could call the Commonwealth Attorney's office and see if you can cut a deal or go to court and ask the judge for PBJ, given your stellar driving record.

(Not giving legal advice here, just relaying personal experience from my almost unblemished driving experience. That could change, of course, once my 328 is delivered!)

going 20 MPH over is reckless, cost 4 points.

you need to see if you are close to earning another +1 points, If lets say your anniversary date is close, say 1 mo. call the court clerk and have your court date move, far possible to make you earn that extra points. so, if you get a conviction the ticket cost you nothing.

For the first motion to move court date the plaintiff can do it themselves, but for the second motion, you need a lawyer, but you're one, so you're ahead.

I can also see, this case yu paying the fine, but not get charge the points.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. I should be well prepared by the time I have to face this ticket (next month). Unfortunately, ase, this is a 6-pointer. One mph less and it would be a 4-pointer: http://www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/ci...s/points_6.asp

yup! seems like it is, sorry.. kinda wanna forget my 3 tickets(1 reckless too) in 9 mos. recently.

if ever they access you points, hold on for about few mos. to see if it finally
made it in your record (-3 points, but I doubt it!). if it does..

... take the DMV 6 hr. Driver Improvement class for $65, so that you get awarded +5, so it may take you to +2 territory again!

doing so not only puts a point buffer zone, but it provides you a time buffer zone too in claiming DMV drivers trng points. Bcoz the dvrs trng can only be had once every 2 yrs.

Excellent. Thanks, ase! Good to know I'm not the only unlucky one around here. Sorry to hear about your tickets. The other day, I was zipping down I-66 and a police car came up behind me with its lights flashing. Thankfully, it went past me to get somewhere else, but I was thinking stupid, stupid, stupid. All I need is another ticket before I even get to court on this one!

Since then, I have been very careful not to be the fastest one on any given stretch of road.

An update. Just got back from court. If you think waiting around at DMV sucks, try going to court. It took more than half the day.

In any case, the cop said he clocked me at 73 but wrote it up for 70, and the prosecutor reduced it to 69, so it's a 4-pointer rather than a 6-pointer. Still drops me to barely into negative territory, but as ase said, I can get +5 back for a driving class, which I suppose I'll do at some point. I ended up hiring a friend of a friend attorney, who was a very nice guy and probably helped, though I suspect I may have gotten the same deal if I had no representation. At least it's over.

All in all, really stupid and I'll have to watch my speed more now.

Be sure to stay behind my car at the meet, my slower-than-yours 325 step will keep your lead foot in check. The least I can do for a fellow e90poster

Am I the only one left without Blacklines? Soon it will be the way to tell if someone on the road is an e90post member.

I do want to see them in action. After paying for the ticket, lawyer (even at a reduced fee!), and the upcoming winter wheels/tires, the car is costing a lot lately. Blacklines will probably have to wait until spring.

Black saphire are great with Blacklines, Euro lights and black out roundels.
A small drop is an option.
