Thoughts on a Porsche Cayman S?

My Dad wants to get a Porsche Cayman S and I was wondering what everyone's thought of the car was. I told him to get a 335i, but he likes the Porsche, a lot.

Does anyone have any experience with the Cayman S?

Keep in mind it's going to be a daily driver. How is the car as a daily driver?

I don't know how it drives, but I sat in one once and I sure couldn't get comfortable. I like the seats in my E93 sport package a lot. Very comfy. That would make a big difference in a daily driver.

M3 starts around 60 grand as well....I'd be getting your dad to look into that.

The 335i is one hell of a car though, I love mine. Can't really give my opinion on the Cayman S....never drove one. I think the bimmer looks better inside and out....but to each their own.

I have heard that it is essentially a Mazda Miata with a Porsche badge.

Get a 335 or M3.

It would be great, if he likes driving sports cars, if not then get an e9x.

Drive the Porsche before you pass any judgement on it. Comparing the driving feel to that of a 335i, the Cayman S feels like a much more stable and capable car. It's a very rewarding car to drive and I think it looks awesome. If your dad chooses it, make sure you get the optional LSD.

The only qualm I have with the Cayman S is that once you option it up a bit, the price starts to creep into 911 territory...

price wise the 335i and cayman s are kinda of different.a fully loaded cayman s comes out to way more than a m3 and has much less hp than it too so convince your dad for the m3

Maybe you should give him a slight nudge toward a 911. It is more practical and has tiny rear seats (looks like he is not too bothered about being practical though ).

I would either choose a M3, or as others have mentioned, with the pricing of the Cayman S, you may as well go for the real deal and get a 911. Either way, I would step away from a Cayman.

The Cayman S is an awesome car. It in IMO the best sports car available for under $100,000. It is extremely well balanced and very easy to drive fast. It has a surprising amouynt of luggage space but of course no back seat.

Below is a picture of my 335i on a Cayman Club run a few weeks ago. I had no problem keeping up with them on the road the Cayman S is a superior track car.

From the people I've talked to who own caymans, they love them. I believe my fathers looking into buying one. Caymans and m3s arent even close to being the same type of car. If he likes it, buy it.

It's a great sports car. Not to be confused with a sporty car, which is what a 335i is. If I could get away with a 2 seater I would get the cayman in a heart beat.

Completely agreement.

I am not sure how it would be as a daily driver though, but its an unbelievable car and really gives its bigger brother the 911 a real good run for the money.

I'd just encourage him to drive both. If it were me in your place, I'd encourage him to get the Porsche so you can drive it - you already have a BMW

Had I not need back seats for my kids my "play" car would have been a Cayman S. It's a 2 seat 911 at a bargain price.

Get a 335 or M3.
Then a 335 is essentially a Ford Fusion. Drive a Cayman and you will learn what a real driver's car is and it doesn't sport a Roundel.

The mid engine Cayman is the real sports car. The base 997 is a step down.

I have one !! It is a fantastic daily driver!! I would definitely recommend going with the PDK. I have a 2006, and PDK was not an option when I got mine. It has a great deal of power, very comfortable seats, plenty of room in the rear and front trunks & is absolutely stunning. DEFINITELY not a mazda, like someone stated above.
