Ceramic clear coat

A "detailer" in my area told me my car has that "scratch resistant" BMW ceramic clear coat. IMHO, scratch resistant and clear coat shouldn't be used in once sentence but nevermind that...

Now, he claims it's ceramic because of the "CCC" stamp on the driver's side window. Is this true?

Also, he claims that if you remove the top ~20% of the ceramic clear coat, after a few washes the car will need repainting (meaning it will screw up the paint).

Detailers, please chime in!

Thanks!

A few additional questions too..

Can you remove those ~20% of the ceramic clear coat with SIP & Flex??

If SIP doesn't fix the scratch (paint problem), then move to Menz Power Gloss? What do you think? How easy it would be to remove your clear coat with that & Flex?

Thanks a lot!

I really don't know for sure, but that smells like BS. JB certainly isn't scratch resistant.

Could be wrong though.

I believe its MB that uses a ceramic clear coat which makes repainting their parts to OEM quality a bitch. I think BMW uses a rather soft clear coat, hence why we get chips so easily.

BMW, Mercedes and Porsche use a cermaic clear coat. Some are harder than others and some have more coats than others. It all depends!

Your detailer is full of crap about the re-paint. You remove less than .5 mill of the clear during compounding or polishing.

Thanks, zaxjax.

Anyone else? What about the "CCC" on the window?
