Japanese trash? lol. thats a bit offensive.

I've been japanese car owner for years now, never had any german.
I currently still own a honda(my BMW is due in few weeks).

but I do find it somehow funny, because thats what im going to say
to my friends(they all have japanese vehicles). of course, as a joke.

Saying Japanese is trash over german cars is a bit ignorant though.
Japanese cars stand up their own, and are not as over-priced as german cars.
I would say MB/BMW > Japanese cars yet, but not VW or Audi.
Tell them to learn how to make cars correctly, without having such bad
reliability problems. MB/BMW are known for electrical problems also,
while top quality japanese vehicles are virtually maintence free.

And G35 is CLEARLY faster than BMW 330i. 350Z also.
Is350 is also faster, and I even heard TL is faster too. BMW said they
won't lose the Horsepower race, but they are. Competitions are clearly
faster than standard 325/330s. G35 6spd is capable of running high 13s
to low 14s stock. Thats what happens when you have more torque and HP
in a car that is lighter than 330i. 255hp/220tq is NOT impressive AT ALL.

I know quite a few people will laugh at my 330i when I tell them I spent
$40,000 for a car that has 255hp and weighs 3500pds. Evos and STIs are
much better performer. 330i isn't very sporty as what most say. There are
many japanese vehicles that'll give it a serious challenge.

but I guess at the end, Lexus is still a toyota, Acura is still a Honda,
infiniti is still a nissan, but BMW is a BMW.

not clearly, only by 0.1s, and it needed 40 more hp and 40 more tq in order to do so.

nothing to brag about.

the Tl is faster than the 330i though.

A4 didn't have manual option, IS350 won't have manual option for a year at least, otherwise they would have been very attractive as well. G35's interior was not something I could live with, TL was too big for my taste.

the Tl is faster than the 330i though.
Well in the magazine racing world, not clearly.
But we shall see in "real life" numbers. all these magazine numbers
aren't very accurate as you already know.

I live in G35drivers forums, and i know exactly how they perform.
I was going to buy G35C until I saw the 330i. If I care more for
straightline performance and aftermarket parts availability for
future tuning(without spending $1000 for intake and $2000 for
exhaust), I would've gone for G35 no questions asked.

Also, keep in mind previous numbers i've pointed out are for G35C,
not G35S.

2006 G35 Sedan:
3500 pds(disadvantage)
298hp (advantage)
260tq (advantage)
Power to weight ratio: 0.08hp per pd (advantage)
Weight to power: 11.7pds per hp (advantage)

2006 330i Sedan:
3450 pds (advantage)
255hp (disadvantage)
220tq (disadvantage)
Power to weight ratio: 0.07hp per pd (disadvantage)
weight to power: 13.5pds per hp (disadvantage)

G35 sedan also has 0.5 liter more(no replacement for displacement).
And that is nothing to brag, UNTIL price comes into play.
While G35 sedan MSRP is about $6000 cheaper than 330i,
provides much more potential(displacement wise, and tuning wise)
and standard power.

330i is not a straightline performer, but "over-all" well built vehicle.

I don't quite understand Hadi's post.

Is he saying Tl/G35 is better or 330i?

umm.. lol. Well im an asian, and I think TL interior(design) is nicer than 330i.
Both TL and 330i have awesome fit and finish, and I think 330i used better
quality materials.
But even interior design is matter of personal preference in my opinion.
Iam a relatively young guy, so I guess I prefer something more "fancy-er"
like the TL, opposed to more "quiet" and generous interior like 330i.
so basically thats just me. I think TL and 330i both has awesome interior.

G35 interior is plain cheap though.

In my opinion, Japanese cars(Lexus, Acura, etc.) are better built
than BMW by 9.7 miles. They have better quality, realiability, and value.

I bought my 330i because of the BMW badge,
not because it's a better car.

If my E90 had a FORD, DODGE, or CHEVY badge.....
I wouldn't even considered looking at it.
Honestly, how many of you would buy your E90 if
it was one of those so-called BIG THREE made in America?
Probably.....5%.

not sure ... probably you are right it was just a saleman trick.
Strange thought that both link I gave you are referring to a
manual 3.2 (not DSG ...). In any case I stop looking at A4s
after I drove the e90 and I ordered one ....

Wow ... just wait a bit and the same topic comes around again! Fancy that! I'll just plug in what I said in the C&D review thread re the IS350...

Quote:
Strikes me as a win for Lexus. Where were they in this class, say 2-3 years ago? Figuring the majority of drivers - well, US drivers anyway - opt for the automatic, and (in my obviously biased opinion) are less concerned with the very initimate driving experience that is the raison d'Ítre of Bimmerness, the Lexus boys may indeed eat into 3er market share. Lexus is known for high-build quality, reliability, and solidly holding its resale value - for the luxo segment of the market it will have strong appeal.

Presumably if IS350 does start nibbling at BMW's base, the Bavarians will respond appropriately. The E90 chassis is its strength and BMW knows how to build a great motor, so they certainly can do it if they have the will to dominate rather than tightly compete. But can they do it at the right price point? Toyota Tsusho is a huge company - anyone have comparisons of it to the Quandts?

For now, the BMW image of sportiness and being a driver's car remains its cachet - and they invented the sports sedan segment dating back to the 2002. The acquisition of Sauber and the continuation of a seemingly purposeful participation in F1 helps the image. The klingons at C&D apparently still respect that image as witnessed by their choice of a manual transmission for the test car. Wonder what the scoring would have been had they used an automatic 330i?

But in just ten years the 3 series has gone from quick and nimble to a wee bit bloated and a little too drive-by-wire-ish. Granted BMW has done it pretty damn well, but still, another 20-30 ponies and another 20 foot-pounds would not have encroached on modern M3 territory, though it might mean bigger brakes. (I'd give up some of the electro-goodies for stronger performance.) Nonethelss 'Yota still has some homework to do in the car-as-extension-of-driver department and it'll take 'em another cycle or two. Here BMW has paid their dues for many many years and C&D got that part very very right. It will remain an interesting battle to watch. The fact that it is a battle at all should be the telling point for Munich.
The more I think about it, the more the F1 connection is a big deal for BMW. Any Eastern manufacturers lay claims into F1 besides Honda? At least the Quattro has respect in the Rallye world. (Can I say 'Eastern' here? - its so hard to know what is kosher for the PCers.)

I just can't imagine some dude squealing "Lexus Rules" at Zandvort, Monaco, or the Ring ... but ya never know.
.
