I bought AFE DCI when it first came out because it looked cool. Performance actually degraded. On a whim I decided to put it on this past Friday with the same results. Put the OEM back on Saturday.

FWIW, after a hard run, if you take the top off the oem box, the air filter is relatively cool. Not so with the AFE. Those suckers are H-O-T and take their sweet time to cool down.

Hard to beat the OEM air box.

I dynoed with the AFE, and after one promising run, the subsequent runs started showing heat soak losses (with the hood closed). I decided to keep it on however seeing that I have the scoops and will probably be experiencing high wind speeds while moving.

After having it sit in my office for 6 months, I just installed an aFe intake on my car along with their scoops. Also running JB3 1.3 on map 6 and I am pleased. Actually, more than pleased.

Don't know if the intake helps or hurts. Don't really care. It sounds good and the blue filters match my blue car LOL

After running a DCI for a bit, I've gone back to the stock air box with a drop-in. I just like the idea of cold air going in. Lawdude made an interesting observation about the stock box keeping the filter cold. I'll have to check that out. I know my DCI's never felt cold after a drive.

i dont know what this will count for but here goes:

most car manufacturers design the engine bay is such a manner as to provide the best underhood cooling by forcing air into the engine compartment, (with a path over the top of the engine and exhausting at the firewall/bulkhead area) - thats why if you look under the car there are lower covers that prevent additional turbulent air from disturbing this flow pattern, forced in the front and vacuumed in the back. so that means the air drawn in by the fan, and forced in by velocity has to pass over the area which most dci's occupy.

so naturally the open intakes are drawing in perhaps a little cooler air, when the car is at speed, but it will also contain heat produce by the engine components. maybe this is one the reason a few folks are staying with the OEM airbox or a CAI.

but then again my car is bone stock so what would i know

i got a helene drop in. and im ok with that. i ran jb3 1.3 rev4 map 7 on 93 octane with no problems. i know its not recommended but im trying to say that the airflow was there. i think u should get a drop in and some Air scoops and call it a day. thats what im gonna do. Seems to work alot better.

Where did you pick your BMC filter up?? I googled but didn't find anything that looked reputable.

don't you have to have DCI to run a more aggressive tune like stage II or III procede?

I removed the aFe DCI a couple months ago, and reinstalled the oem stock intake + BMC drop-in air filter (and left the SwoopScoops installed as is); still running v3 stage 1 non-doomsday map.

If you put it on the dyno and tested before after, yeah, you'd make no hp or lose HP because your car needs a day or two to re-calibrate, and your 2nd run is always less than your first. Furthermore, an intake doesn't add 30hp. It adds just a few, which can be counteracted (and then some) by temperatures, etc.

These intakes do not lose power. Nothing could be less free-flowing than OEM. I think people just expect the car to be 1 second faster to 60 and it's just not going to happen. An intake is important if you are modifying the car, though, as you don't want the stock intake to be the bottleneck
