Those who have had HPFP replaced...

I've been having long crank issues for about a week to ten days now. This morning the car barely started. My question is for those that have been in a similar boat before trying to figure out the symptoms.

My symptoms are that my car runs perfectly fine when I'm driving it regularly. The long cranks only occur on cold starts if i haven't driven my car for 24 hours or longer. After the cold start w/ long crank, my car starts and runs perfectly fine the rest of the day and the following days until i park it for another 24 hours.

Is that normal for HPFP symptoms? i would think if the fp is failing it would give more erratic and unexpected long cranks, this seems to me to be something tied more to a battery or electrical issue.

Mine is not taking long to crank......but the 24 hour cold starts sound awful with lots of hiccups and stumbling.

Once it settles down - it runs normally and starts fine for the rest of the day.

Not much you can do except wait for it to fail

Based on the number of posts we are seeing lately on this topic....it's a pretty sure bet that they will fail sooner or later.

BTW - mine has been like this for at least a month and hasn't gotten any worse.

I've had two go bad, and both times there were only minor hints that it'd fail, weeks prior to the failure. Then, BAM it goes out and I have to get it replaced.

You guys, like many others here, are lucky in that you are getting fair warning. My first one left me stranded far away from home and fortunately my second one happened 2 miles away.

I have a theory that driving it at high revs (not redline mind you, but >5k RPM) accelerates failure on a nearly failed pump. Both times mine failed, I had recently pushed the car fairly hard <24 hours prior, which is something I don't normally do. So, maybe go take a spirited drive <10 min away from home and see if that doesn't push it over the edge. That is, if you can't get your dealer to just replace it on the hints, which would be the preferred option.

When it dies, you know it instantly. You can still drive it for a couple miles after it dies, but I wouldn't recommend any more than that.

BTW, first time I got limp mode, and the second time I just got SES with no limp mode. First one the car just ran weak (limp mode) and the second one it ran extremely rough, as if it was still trying to use the failed pump.

im on my 4th fuel pump, i had all those symptoms but you can only wait till it fails, ive unistalled my tune many times and twice was because my fuel pump was going out, and both times right after taking the tune out it crapped out. If ur tuned give it a shot lol
