OK, park the car next to a wall (it reflects the sound into you) and wind down the drivers window.

Put your car into N and slowly build the revs up to 3000 and then come back down to 2000. If you hear a rattle at approx 2000 - this is considered normal by BMW....anything else should be checked out.

That's definitely the rpm range where it rattles. And that is considered to be normal?

I'll definitely have my dealer take a look at that. It's not that annoying, but no way should it even be there on a 60k EUR car!!

What Vegas dealership do you typically deal with?

Yes, normal.

"The customer complains of a metallic noise from the exhaust system near the engine or turbocharger area. This noise is described as a clanking noise, occurring up to six or seven times in a row during a deceleration from approximately 3,500 RPM; or during a heavy application of the accelerator without a drive gear being engaged.
Complaints received regarding a slight rattle from this area under steady acceleration in the 2,000 RPM to 4,000 RPM range are due to the rotating waste gate valve face; this is a characteristic of the mechanical waste gate. The rotating waste gate valve face is necessary to ensure proper sealing. This slight rattle noise is considered normal operation of the mechanical waste gate valve. No repair should be attempted for this type of rattling complaint."

MRAD01, when was your car built? I think I'm 9/07.

I bet this problem persists cause no bmw owner has once complained. I bought a 70k car that rattles like a rattle snake. WTF ? am i the only one that is pissed off? Im done with bmw after this one. Bangle left anyways . I told the dealer they lost a sale on the new 750i. They just sat there and listened. I dont get how they cant replace the shit products they put in these cars? Its strange that a company will not replace parts that screw up on wastegates and fuel pumps. At least they had to increase the fuel pump warranty to 100k. AUDI will win the overall battle I think. Bangle leaving just made it worse

You are so right man. THANKS SOMEONE IS actually bring up the point that this shouldnt happen on a car like this. You know what my friend said that owns a gs450h? He said get ready for your bmw to be in the shop all the time. This is before I even got the car or even know about the two huge problems they have with their suppliers. I know its not bmw fault, but it kind of is. As detail oriented as they are you would think they would put the damn car through its paces a little. Anyway. Screw bmw even though I like the 750i. Ill take my chances with porsche or audi next time THE ONLY REASON im keeing this car forever is cause I love the over all design that BANGLE created. NOT ARMIN VAN HOok or whatever that gayboys name is. He looks gay. Im sure he is.

Mine is a 06/07 build (has msd80). NOTE: I had to take mine in a second time with the SIB in hand and pointed out the paragraph to the techs which said they needed to do the wastegate retrofix software.

The more I drive mine - the better it has become....it is fast like the 27.x days...

(Yes, I do know the wastegate noise will increase over time - but my plan is for an e92 M3 in the next 6 months...)

Reporting in! My car is at the dealer since Wednesday. They are working on the 'wastegate' issue. I noticed this noise 1-2 weeks ago. Another thing I have been getting is "Engine Malfunction - Reduced Power" sign every now and then (4-5 times in 2-3 months). Car used to go in limp until I re-start the car (like a PC). After that, the sign and reduced power used to go away. Dealership doesn't know yet if they are related -- they are working on it.

I had the engine malfunction light on about a month ago, took the car in they found no codes.

2weeks ago the light came on again, so i took the car in wed. and they told me its the wastegate not closing which cause the engine malfunction light. Starting about a year ago i noticed when starting the car I would hear a rattle or clicking sound but it went away after it warms up. I did rev the engine up to see if its westgate but no clicking or rattle was heard. I thought my wastegates were fine. Guess i was wrong. haha

today i got my car back, start up...no click or rattle anymore. They update me to ISTA/P 2.32.1 they told me its the latest....NOT. I don't know if they did the wastegate retrofix or not. My SA did told me on Wed. if I do feel a lag to bring it back in after fri. to do the retro fix. the car drives fine, haven't notice lag. I just want to know how to detect the lag is there a rpm # that the lag occurs?

They also replace my squeaky brake pads and sensor, this is the 2nd time in about 3-4 month.
