M Division chief Dr Kay Segler has given a recent interview where he explains that the BMW M division did seriously consider putting fourth a BMW M7 but had decided against such a car for a multitude of reasons, but mostly due to low expected sales volume from such a car. It seems the top range car in the 7-series lineup will be the twin-turbo 760i. Not exactly a slouch with a 0-60 of 4.6s, rivaling other cars in the BMW M lineup

Dr. Segler also spoke on the topic of the rumored production version of the GT4 which he verified could be in the cards in the future. Offering the vehicle as a street car would not only satisfy the hardest of hardcore enthusiasts, it meets Segler's goal of helping to promote more competition at the entry level of motorsports.

On the topic of a diesel M car, Dr. Segler felt this to be unrealistic as the majority of M sales are made in the United States and we still do not embrace diesel cars on a large scale. Dr. Segler did recognize that diesel engines are now considered worth race engines, but this decision is more of a marketing and sales decision rather than a performance one.

Finally he discussed M Sport. This is a proposed line up of parts between the standard BMW cars and the traditional BMW M cars. This would be give a unique addon to BMW enthusiasts but i'm not sure how these parts would interact with the recently launch BMW Performance lineup of parts.

see, to those who were doubting, even the head of BMW M acknowledges that there could be a Diesel M, it's just the backwards thinking American consumer who is preventing it. argh!

I would never buy a diesel. There simply are not enough gas stations that serve diesel around where I live. That would be a major PITA.

M-Sport is kinda old thing, right? I know not for customers in States, but in Europe it has been here for a looooong time. And don't worry americans, you will have diesel in gas stations, it just takes a while for you to realize how much more efficient it is nowadays for regular customers

True, but an ///M with an automatic transmission with a torque converter is so there you go. Make a manual version and then they'll be sick.

The M versions of the X trucks are simple proof that BMW wants to play the AMG game. Fat things with automatics, no matter how fast will still be fat things with automatics. No thanks. For the same reason that an M7, and really, the current M5/M6 have no real appeal to me.

///M's are so much more than mere AMGs. IMHO AMGs are brilliant cars - but don't have as much science and engineering more of an orientation for power.

from what I've heard that's not the case, I read that most of the diesel refineries are here and that when oil tankers arrive they unload oil and fill up on diesel to take to europe

Wish he would thought of this excuse when they decided to make SUV M-vehicles. They won't be high volume cars either. Not even close.

A manual X5 and 6 M would be nice and should be offered (for example cayenne gts has both), but they still need an auto because the majority of the people that buy these trucks already have other manual cars and this may be a daily driver.

Maybe things are different in Arizona but around where I live every other car seems to be a Cayenne Turbo or ML63, they'll sell like hotcakes here. I wish they would offer them with manual or at least the M-DCT though.

Guys don't forget that diesel is MORE than regular gasoline in the US!

Whereas in Europe diesel is about 1/2 the price of gas.......

doesn't the 335i diesel have a 4500 redline?? If that is the case and most diesels have low redlines....then, well they must be boring to drive

LCI 330d revs to 5500rpm...

I have always disliked the diesels because you dont get that same feeling as you would get with high revving gasoline engine, but it is the torque what makes you addicted.

I do miss how involved you feel with manual 335i for example... but automatic 335d, it is just so effortless... Any gear, any revs... it just pulls so hard!

not here in socal. it's about 40 or so cents cheaper than 91.

I really do not understand why there is no use of making an M7. The X5 and X6 M are even more usless. Mercedes S AMG an Audi S8 do sell there cars, and i do see some of them. Why not make an M7 with a 5.5l V10 TT and more then 655 hp derived from the 4.4l V8 TT? If Alpina makes an B7 S on base of the 760i, it still will not be so good as a M7. And who wants an 120.000 € "entry-level" 420 hp tripped of M3 GT4? They should do a real M3 CSL with 520 hp, the last most powerfull NA engine in the world, and this in the last NA M-Car. I do not know what deos BMW want to do with these 5 GT, 3 GT and 1 GT, eventhough I saw the 5 GT and I liked it. BMW does the best engines but they put them into the worst models.

Er, no it isn't. In the UK it's about 2/3% more expensive than gas and in mainland Europe it may be slightly cheaper than gas but certainly not half price.
