More residue on one of the exhaust pipes

I apologize in advance if this has been topic has been covered or is a question born out of my ignorance. I got a CPO 2007 335i (E92 - no mods) 3 weeks ago. The other day i noticed that there is a little more residue on one of my exhausts compared to the other. I started the car and when i put my hand in front of it, i could feel one exhaust more than the other as well. I am not sure if this is a problem as given that this is my first car worthy of being called one, i could be a little over-sensitive...

Again, if this has been discussed, I apologize. Also not sure if more details are needed.

there is a flap that closes the left muffler at low engine speeds/throttle.

I've got to admit it bothers me a little - i've had people asking me if my car's a fake because smoke only comes out of one exhaust pipe, whilst others sitting behind me at traffic lights point at the clean tip vs the dirty one and make gestures because they think i've rebadged a 318i. Next time I wash the car i'm not going to clean the pipes and leave them both dirty.

i think the flap is broken on my 330i. its always open.

If you're serious, I've wondered the same thing. Mine looks like it's always open, too. But the tip without the valve (left, on the 330i) gets sootier than the one with it (right), so it must close when I'm not watching it.

Maybe that's just how the 330i is? Flap open at idle? I just thought it was broken since I saw a YouTube video of before and after the golf tee mod on a 335i, and the flap closed right after start up. But then both my tips look equally sooty.

Do you clean yours regularly? If I let mine go, I might not be able to see a difference, but I clean weekly or at least every 2 weeks. The left one clearly gets sootier.

Good point. Got my car used so there's some caked on soot that doesn't readily come off. I need some metal polish...

theres actually a easier mod where you just unplug the actuator plug or the plug that controls the vaccum in the trunk on the left tailight side.

both of mine is like BLACK!!! it blends in with my car
gave up on cleaning them since it sat there for so long.

before i did the mod the right one was always black and the left one was like brand new clean... it was so ugly. all good now!

(for the 335 its closed on idle for the left one and opens up when you drive at higher speeds or when the turbos are used.)
