Best tune for the money? 2009 335i LCI

I have been looking at the JB3 1.3 PNP, what is the best tune for the money and the least detectable tune, I would rather not have the warranty voided on this car as it is a lease.

I do not mind removing it for service calls

I had the JB3 on my 135i and loved it!
I kept it for my new car.

If warranty/detectability is a concern, then you will also have to buy am $300 BT tool along with it (for code reading/clearing). If you need an o2 sim eventually, it's another $50-100. A user tuning interface is another $300 or so.

Or you can get a PROcede for $945 and have all that come standard. Along with speed delimiter, data-logging, dash displays, code reading, ignition timing control, etc,.

Or just try both and decide what you like more and return the other.

Cheers,
shiv

If you are really looking to get a good tune and save some dough.. You can also check out the JB3 pin-out version going for 349(although if not experienced with ECU installs you may want to have a professional perform the install) and the pinout has all the functionality of the JB3 plug and play with a couple hundred savings..

I just installed the jb3 and the dci. Install was cake. The hardest part was reinstalling the plastic covers over the master cylinder and ecu The power is addictive now. Going to buy the vin rights to a bt tool to protect against hidden codes when going in for service.
Pre-install dyno was 258hp and 284tq. Going to dyno soon with the tune and intake. Currently running map3 on 91 oct. At the dyno, will throw in some 100 oct and push it to at least map5 to see what it does.

Wow... ANYWAY, search is a powerful weapon when it comes to answering this and many other questions... I say choose between the JB3 and PROcede, but if your really worried about warranty, either don't tune or go the DINAN route (although DINAN warranty is just as bad as BMW's IMO) As was stated before with the JB3 you will need to purchase the BT Tool (either professional or enthusiast edition). YOu just have to ask yourself, is this a need, or a want...

Check the Classifieds, as people are always selling used tunes. It's not like they Wear out like other mechanical parts, so used is just as good as new, but just cheaper !!!!

No it does not but the OP's sig state his 335 is fully loaded. Guessing he has the sports package, he has the BMW upgraded speed limiter of 155, instead of the standard 135.. Unless he's taking that bad boy to the autobahn, there is really little need for speeds above 155.

YES! Fortunately lots of Autobahn all around here... I'm sure I'll get to 310 or 315 km/h one of these days.

If you up to a tune only, I would go with JB3. However if you want all-in-one solution (code reading/clearing, o2 sims, loging, etc) head towards PROcede direction. You can also take advantage of 14 days money back from both tuners and try them both!

It all comes down to needs, value, and service! Also just to make a minor correction, you DO NOT need a BT tool with the JB3. That is only required if you're running the very aggressive maps. Even those aggressive maps don't trigger detection codes but we suggest it just to be on the safe side. The street maps 1-5 used by most are very conservative when it comes to detection codes.

The concensus around here is that performance for both PROcede and JB3 are the same. It comes down to value - what you get for your money. Features are built in to PROcede and must be added on to JB3.

From the tuners themselves, each has its minor inconveniences. Hooking up a PROcede requires the extra step of connecting to power. To update a JB3 you must get into your ECU, which I understand is not a lot of fun.

No matter what anyone else says If you're interested in the peace of mind of ensuring you have no codes, you will need the BT scanner with the JB3, which negates the price advantage. With the PROcede you can clear all codes with two taps of your toe.

Buy a used Procede Rev 1 PNP.
JB3 will cost you 475 used.
Procede V3 Rev 1 will cost around 275 used.

It can run the same maps as the Rev II differences being it cannot not read/clear codes it also cannot integrate with the dash CANbus.

It's still stealth if you run doomsday maps and it is just as powerful as the JB3 but... the boost is said to be more linear, consistent and smoother then the JB3.

My understanding is the doomsday maps will limit the signals to the ECU in areas that will throw codes. You can limit the maxpsi and the ignition timer set at 100 negates any engine knock codes. Speed delimiter, ummm valet mode, switching between valet and tuned map using the remote blah blah blah The install is easy as hell, a retard can do it and lastly i got mine shipped for $275.

To play devils advocate

The JB3 is a powerful tune and is very cost-effective. It has map switching which is awesome.

Both are awesome!! I researched for a while before buying...above is what i took away from the research. Good Luck

JB3 maps are not detectable and can yield 80hp or more to the wheels on a stock car. No BT tool is required. It's a safe, powerful, and easy to use tune. The other alternative would be to start with the JB+ which installs in seconds, and the take advantage of the upgrade program when/if the need for more power arises. Many find it more than strong enough.

The tuning gauge is great for road race guys, enthusiasts, etc, who want a boost gauge/iat gauge/and on the fly tuning options without having to lug around a laptop. But at $279 that type of flexibility isn't cheap. Still, much cheaper and more functional than other boost gauges on the market. The JB3 is the only tune to offer this level of flexibility/integration with a gauge. Not even Dinan has anything like this. It is completely optional and can be added later if the desire comes up.

+1 on buying both and returning the one you like the least. There have been a few recent reviews of owners of both who switched exclusively to the JB3 after running the 1.3 software. Just wait until more people get a chance to try the BETA_9A5 software.

Mike
